RE: MBB: Toledo at Eastern Michigan (MAC tournament)
Random thoughts;
I wonder, since they used so little of the bench, did they became fatigued as the season went on?
As many have said, they don't have a pure point guard, nor a good one. Stuckey was at best, serviceable, but that's about it. They must fill that void, or, if Stuckey is the man, he has a lot of work to do over the off season. I'm kind of disappointed in him. I thought he had the potential to be a "leader" this year. Nope, not even close.
Which brings me to the "leader." Booth is our leader, best player, and heart and soul of this team. But they need this not from the center position, but from the front court. Jon Jon didn't step into the roll. Someone needed to fill the shoes of Juice, or better yet, we needed to find another Ryan Pierson - and we don't have one. The front court controls the game, both with the ball, intensity, and heart. Nobody stepped up. This much change next year or they will be another under-performing team that will give us more disappointment.
I still think Coach K (and I like him) wasted a bunch of freshmen in a season that was to be bad anyway. These guys should have had more playing time all year. Win now at all costs was a mistake, and one that Coach K might realize now that it is too late. Some of this falls on coaching, and that's on Coach K.
Mark Beier will be missed. And how in the Sam hell can he be by himself on the broadcast in a MAC tournament game. They need a PR department. If they have one, they should be fired.
If by chance they get a bid somewhere - turn it down - send the guys home. They need to re-group.
Sad, sad, season.
