I think the name thing is funny.

But, part of me thinks that many Americans laughing about this have no idea that their last name is an Americanized version of their original family name, wether because the government worker couldn't spell their name or because a fresh new immigrant wanted to make things easier for himself.

I know that my last name is Americanized.
