RE: Baseball Opening Weekend
It's still early, but it looks like the Jags may have a little better hitting over last year. This is going to be a fun year.
I wish Coastal was here already.

You say "a better Rice team"? Better than WSU or better than last year, because last year Rice was a pretty salty team?

I'm happy with AState's start. Road series win over a CUSA school, even if UAB isn't as good as they normally are this year. When you have to play your first 2 weeks away from home because of the weather, it's tough. Hopefully next week we improve even more at the Perfect Game Showcase.

Better than WSU, Rice always puts together a pretty solid team.

I'm not sure they are that great this year, they have a really good reliever, and one decent starter, plus one good hitter. That's it.
It will win them some games, but not a ton.

Well we expected it. We expect to beat down everyone we play.
If there is one thing we are going to bring to the Sun Belt, it is a great baseball program.
USA better watch out.
There, FIFY. The Jaguars could use some competition at playing second fiddle.
Lol.
USA SBC tourney championships - 11
ULL SBC Tourney championships - 3
USA NCAA appearances 25
ULL NCAA appearances 15
CCU NCAA appearances 13
We didn't win the tourney last year, but we are defending regular season champs.
Are your teams from the 90's and early 2000's playing currently? Is Kittrell still the coach? Didn't think so. I'm talking present day, not a decade ago. If you wanted to make an argument for USA > UL 10-15 years ago, then you'd have a point. But coaches, the media, and fans in general pretty much agree that UL baseball is the current king of the SBC.

If you take the average finish over those three years, UL = 2.33 and USA = 2.67. So your point was?
And besides, what did that regular season success do for you?

We had two first place finishes in the last three years. Troy has finished higher than ULL twice in the same time frame as well. Our league has got to get back where we send multiple teams to the tournament every year. Finishing first over the course of the regular season didn't get us in the NCAA Tournament, but that shouldn't be the case. We had a lot of home games against good teams that hurt our RPI, but it is what it is.

Super regional appearances for USA=0
So wait, since the SR format was adopted in 1999, USA's 8 regional appearances resulted in 0 advancements to the Supers?? Sorta sad.
And in that same time frame. UL baseball has had 9 regional appearances, advancing to the Supers 4 times, advancing to the CWS once.

RE: Baseball Opening Weekend
Since 1999? Convenient time frame you picked, don't you think, considering USA was one win away from the CWS in both 1997 and 1998. No Jag fan will sit here and tell you we ruled the 2000's, because that has been the worst stretch in our history. But we've found ways to get back there with two first place finishes in the last three years.
