Should ODU Add Men's Lacrosse?
In recent years, Richmond has added the sport and plays in the SoCon. Now, according to the RTD, Hampton will be sponsoring D1 Men's Lacrosse as an independent (to start), and ESPN will be profiling the team. It seems the sport is increasingly growing in popularity.

Richmond cut soccer in favor of lacrosse. What men's programs should we cut in order to afford this one and stay compliant? That sport requires about 40 more mouths to feed.

I do like LAX but, we still have to add some womens scholarships to become Title IX compliant, so like SB said, we would have to drop mens sport(s). I think ODU has enough irons in the fire for now.

RE: Should ODU Add Men's Lacrosse?
As much as I would love to see quality men's lacrosse with ODU jerseys, this will never occur. Athletics is already in non-compliance with Title IX, and needs to get there soon. The question is which women's sports are going to be added, and/or men's programs cut. Volleyball is the first to be added..I'm assuming once the Basketball practice facility is completed. I'm not sure what land can be utilized to serve for softball. If cuts are to be made, where would/should they come from? ODU won't cut baseball or soccer. I don't see men's tennis going, since they are small in number and they have already have a fantastic facility. Men's swimming & diving could be addressed as well. Wrestling seems to be on the chopping block across the country. However, our squad always seems to be up there in the rankings and getting it done academically.

I like lacrosse and it is booming in popularity, however, ODU has enough money to spend without adding more. If we didn't have football, then maybe. I think its more likely we cut something than add.

What Hampton is doing is very moving in the sport. You have to know the back story to be impress. I am just disappoint they turned down a poplar white lax player who wanted to transfer to HU to be part of a new program. Reason he felt he was turned down was they wanted an all African American team for pr.

No, nothing against lacrosse but we have no room for more men's sports. I'm hoping we don't cut wrestling.

I dont think wrestling would get cut as long as coach Martin is at the helm. If it came down to finances he could get the money. I am not sure how much say he has with wrestling boosters and funds at ODU but he ran a great booster club at great bridge. My teammates never had to pay for shoes, gear, traveling expense, AAU card, tournament fees, summer camps and some wrestlers received health insurance and apartments.

We could offer bowling to the women to off set wrestling!!! HU and NSU both have bowling teams.

It'll be hard enough sustaining the number of men's sports we have now. How about a piping hot mug of nope this chilly morning

Bowling has less spots, in regards to Title IX, than wrestling. Unfortunately, with no cuts, ODU will need to add more than just volleyball, and I don't believe the size of bowling will cut it.

I have to imagine that bowling is pretty cheap (I was a varsity bowler in HS, that's a thing in NJ)

Also, would get us into yet another conference.

The latest campus master plan includes a softball field close to the stadium on the waterfront. This would probably still be constructed there even if the stadium is located at the current site.

I would say add men's LAX if we were compliant with Title IX and if CUSA added it as a sport. Other than that, no.

I am sure we could add womens bowling which gives out 5 scholarships that can be spread to 10 players. Add womens fencing gives out 4.5 that can be spread to 9 players. Cross country I think you can award 18 scholarships. All 3 sports are low cost.

Perhaps we could add rock throwing as a new sport...but no, wait a minute, we already have men's and women's basketball for that.

They may as well. Football is about to flop. How can you recruit 3 and 4 star football players with -3 star facilities? ODU football is becoming a joke and no teams will ever take us seriously!
