Why do people keep capitalizing UMass and UConn like they're an acronym?

they are not an acronym like North Carolina (UNC) but i think we are used to cutting down Connecticut into CONN and Massachusetts into MASS already. Slap a U in front of them and well......cheers!

4 definite losses - Florida, Miss.ST., South Carolina, BYU.
Have a chance based on losing records last year with BC and Hawaii.
Winnable - FIU, Tulane, Old Dominion, L. Tech, Wagner, Troy.
Potential 6 & 6 based on a 3 & 9 season last year with four losses under 7 points and 1 loss under 10 points.

I don't understand what the hell they're doing now.
They said going Independent would be the death nail to UMass Football.
We would not be able to schedule or recruit.
We've been able to do both. We had our best recruiting class ever, playing a national schedule.
According to 247sports right now the #78 best recruiting class.
UMass 2016 Commitments
Our schedule
Is FIU home or away. I thought they played FIU at McGuirke last year.

Yea - I know I can read. My question is for the UMass posters asking why they played FIU at home last year with a win over them and why they are playing them home again this year according to the 2015 and 2016 schedules.

We extended the series and FIU already had 3 home games for 2016, so they are coming this year and we are going there in '18 and '19.

Thank-you that was the answer I was looking for. It seemed odd that you had FIU home 2 years in a row. I figured something had to be work out in the future if one of the schedules was not a misprint. Once again thanks for the info.

Am I the only one that can't figured out why some schools are trying to become state names like Buffalo/New York and ULL/Louisiana but Massachusetts is going by UMass and Connecticut is going by UConn. Just seems odd and backwards. The U in front of schools is such as northern thing that Albany now goes by UAlbany which might be the dumbest name ever Albany was fine UAlbany is just trying to hard. Also why does Wyoming go by WYO that also seems to stupid to me.

Why do people call the University of Oklahoma OU? It's UO. Or even OK would work, but OU is just dumb.
and then there's this little detail-
1804 Ohio University founded.
1890 University of Oklahoma founded.
and this-
1894 first season of football at Ohio University
1895 first season of football at University of Oklahoma
and this-
1907 first season of basketball at Ohio University
1908 first season of basketball at University of Oklahoma

Come on, is that the best you can do. For a program with such a long and rich football tradition, can barely out recruit Massachusetts, after it's 4th year as a FBS program and no conference affiliation, championship game or bowl tie ins.
What the heck is going on.
