RE: Forum Lease
when we started that lease we played a 14 game conference schedule...so playing 19 games at FEF (one of which is an exhibition) was easy to manage.

then CUSA went to 16 games and it became more difficult to sign home-home contracts...

now the AAC plays an 18 game schedule, and we have like ZERO wiggle room.

think about it...30 games (unless we play in a preseason tourney)...9 aac home games, 9 aac road games...that leaves 12 games, 9 of which HAVE to be at FedExForum

that's why we want to renegotiate...

Disagree completely. Once Pastner is gone, things will return to normal...

what if the next coach doesn't win? I've been in Memphis long enough to see that tiger fans don't support teams that aren't winning (finch in the later years, Price, Jones, Pastner). Now that your lease is tied to attendance, sounds like you are at the mercy of the Grizzlies and better support them no matter the coach.

Finch had one losing season. 1993-94. He went to the sweet sixteen in 95, was upset as a five seed in 96, and went to the NIT in 97 when he was fired. So losing is the wrong word. More like the coach lost the support of the ticket purchasers. And you know what, they came back!

How many losing seasons has Pastner had?

You're making my point.

Tic Price resigned (due to a situation of his own making), Johnny Jones was an interim...those aren't fair comparisons.

Larry Finch got 11 years

Calipari was here 9 years

Pastner has been here 7 years

we don't rush to judgement, and we give coaches PLENTY of time.

the lease has ALWAYS been tied to attendance.

moreover, from what I hear, our wanting to renegotiate has nothing to do with the 800,000k payout, and more to do with the 19 games we're required to play at FedExForum (1 of which can be an exhibition game)

that was fine when we played a 14 or 16 game conference schedule in CUSA...not here in the AAC with 18 conference games.

but no one wants to talk about that fact.

So you mean that they can't come up with ten other home games?

So why have they been cutting out the exhibitions?

So 9 conference games, 6 buy games, and 2 decent home opponents (plus 2 exhibitions) is hard now?

no, we want to be able to sign more home-home series with big name schools...right now we have to sign one off "buy games" with mid majors like Sam Houston and UT-A (yes, we lost BOTH, I'm aware) just to meet the minimal level of Forum home games...

we used to play 2 exhibition games, when only 1 could count towards to lease total...Pastner said he preferred to play the one exhibition (as per the contract) and do the 'secret scrimmage' thing instead of a second exhibition game.

what does "hard" have to do with anything other than your trolling? they're trying to get us the freedom to sign more home-homes with name big schools...they feel the current lease was fine in 2004 when we played 14 conference games...but it's too restrictive in 2016 when we play 18 conference games.

Tic price was forced to resign. Had he been winning consistently, he would have survived his affair. The only reason he didn't survive was because he was not winning. It was probably the reason the affair came to light. See Calipari.

I'm trolling? Really?

You say they are renegotiating because they can't handle 19 games a year at FEF but they aren't always playing two exhibition games.

I dispute your assertion and I'm trolling.

I doubt they are trying to hook up more home and homes at a time like this.

This is true. If he had gone to the NCAA the university woulda just paid the phone bill and moved on. One only needs to look at Rick Pitino to understand.

yes, you're trolling...yes, signing more home-home's with big name schools is the point...Memphis wants more scheduling flexibility.

what's wrong with saying "let's sit down and talk"?

what got Tic was that she was a student intern assigned to his athletic dept...he was her boss...it moved into the realm of obvious policy violations, and even a sexual harassment lawsuit.

an affair is one thing...when it involves student interns, that's something else.

if you had read the lease, you would know only 1 exhibition game can count towards the lease....memphis could play 100 exhibition games at FedExForum...and only 1 would count towards our lease requirement.

that's why we only play 1 exhibition game.

You can screw them. And you can involve your wife in the festivities.

What you can't do is whip their arse.

We play 1 exhibition game because Pastner doesn't want to play them versus a scrimmage. But if tickets are selling, there is money to be made in two exhibitions.

I have not read the lease, but even with 14 conference games, 18 regular season home games seems like a huge guarantee to make. Especially over a 20 year period.

It would not come to that, worst case the UM doesn't get their payout. some income from Tiger BB is better than none for the Griz.

But if attendance were that poor, we could play @ the Agricenter?

Actually the reduction of required home games would be about the only logical reason to want to redo the deal.
