Led Zepplin was heavily sued for a songwriting credit as Jimmy Page 'borrowed' the tune for "Stairway to Heaven" from a band called Spirit (from the song "Taurus")...and the songwriter Randy California. (The music in question starts at about the 45 second mark.To be honest....I don't think that one was all that blatant.
Men at Work were sued for "Land Down Under", as the flute interlude of the song rips off a popular Australian children's tune "Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree".
George Harrison was sued for "My Sweet Lord" and its eerily similarity to the tune "He's So Fine".
If Memphis wanted to do so...they could get a lot of money out of this.

yes you are imagining that. Go Tigers Go is an original composition by former MSOS director Dr Thomas Ferguson.

V. Lane came up with some lame knock off version of an aussie drinking song with some tacked on lyrics called "tigerland" that the band had to play during games. it quickly died when he left the job.

you could say all the rest without that snarky bit...that's why you rub people the wrong way.

Yeah, but he was here long enough to screw stuff up. No one has done less to make the school better than Rawlins.

You may be right, but I have a hard time imagining anyone doing more harm to the football program than Thomas Carpenter. Anyway, what matters now is the present and future - I don't think we have ever before had a president or an AD better than Rudd and Bowen.

Christmas in Dixie sounds very similar to the theme song of some obscure Australian show. The writer of the song sued Alabama, not sure of the outcome.

Calkins and Martin just discussed the Hofstra fight song on 92.9. This place should really receive a commission from that radio station.

Geoff lowered the boom on dude today.

"And how should the university balance Pastner’s obvious integrity against his failure to collect enough meaningful wins? That would have been a fine conversation to hear on ESPNU. It also would have reflected some familiarity with the issues at hand. Instead, Welsh chose to reflexively defend Pastner, because that’s what twice-fired-coaches-turned-broadcasters always do."

RE: "Memphis media and fans are delusional"
My favorite for Tim Welsh ... does this guy have a Twitter so we can send it to him ?

"... let’s focus on the substance of Welsh’s remarks. Are Memphis fans and writers who question Pastner’s job security delusional? No. Of course not. They know that Pastner has now lost nine straight to ranked teams, that he is 5-25 against ranked teams over the course of his career. They know he has never gotten to the second weekend of the tournament, that he has lost 10 home games in the last 14 months, that attendance at FedExForum is down by a third, that recruiting is in the tank. Indeed, the only people who don’t question Pastner’s job security are those, like Welsh, who have no idea what is going on in Memphis, and who find it easier to suck up to their fellow coaches than to have an honest discussion of the complex issues involved."

Welsh, while slightly exaggerating, did have a good comment on columnists/radio hosts that barely attend any games.

Its sad that Calkins has only attended 5 out of Memphis' 21 games this year...and those (columnists) like Calkins, that only attend/cover a handful events seem to always end up being the "negative" press guy.

Now if Calkins had attended 15 plus games and came to the same conclusion, I think he would get more credit...but since he has only attended a handful of games...most Memphis fans know more about this year's team than he does...and most of the Memphis fans don't get paid to do that (heck, they PAY for the opportunity).

I would wager that he's been to enough games during JP's tenure to fairly form an opinion.

Really though? Do you even understand his point? You don't have to go to games to see what the issue with Pastner is.

Some fans have been saying these issues with him for years. It's been the last two years of disappointments that the masses have followed.

Him not going to games is more of a symptom than the reason for the opinion.

How many Pastner coached games has Tim Welsh gone to?

Weren't those suits were for royalties from sales of the music in question. Is Hofstra selling large quantities of this song and/or video? I doubt it.

That is immediately what I started laughing about when he was going on about his ignorant tirade about columnists not coming to enough games to fairly form an opinion...

What's sad Lite Brite is a UCF fan coming over here gushing over Pastner and knocking a guy that LIVES here and COVERS the tigers.
