Nope. I'd support the penny hire, but my belief is it would end in disaster.

He was clearly an amazing player and still has all kinds of connections to the game at all levels. I think he would make good hires for his staff. I think he would absolutely destroy on the recruiting trail. I mean, I bet 95% of the kids he'd be recruiting have at least one pair of his shoes. He seems too be doing well coaching high school, though that is admittedly different than college in many ways. I'm not so much afraid that it will end poorly as I am the consequences of it ending poorly.We'd risk souring a very important relationship if things didn't go well.

Absolutely the best hire. If they hire Penny, I will throw in a 1000 bucks for the buyout. If another 10,000 Tiger fans do the same, he's paid off, if my math is correct.

Penny clearly wants to be a coach. What's worse giving him a chance and he fails or not giving him the time of day when/if we have an opening?

Me personally, if someone gave me a fair shot and I failed that's on me. If I was never even given a shot I think that would sting a little harder. For what Penny has done for the school and the city, he deserves a shot.

I mean he's really more of an "owner" in the way someone with a few thousand shares of Apple is an owner, right? At any rate, I would imagine if it were an actual issue that it would be fairly easy to divest himself of his interest in the team (or set up something in the nature of a blind trust while he's coaching college ball if that's possible).
