UAB with 4 votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll
http://sportspolls.usatoday.com/ncaa/bas...ches-poll/

This got me to thinking. Forget the RPI, if we win out up until the championship game, where do you think we rank in the polls?

Would a national ranking be enough to trump a CUSA Championship game loss and low RPI given that what this team did last year in the NCAA Tourney?

Thoughts?

Whatever ranking we might have would quickly disappear with a loss in the Conference tourney.

I've never seen any evidence that the selection committee uses polls to decide who's in the tournament

C-USA is a 1 bid league this year. Win in March or stay home.

We wouldn't quite stay home, we probably would be NIT bound which would be kind of like it regarding the big dance.

Barring a string of losses, we will be in the NIT, at least. I have to think the committee would consider us for an at large given our intangibles (Remember the second Mike Anderson NCAA team was a borderline entry into the tournament, but the committee took into account how well we did the previous year), however, I think we will ultimately be on the wrong side of the bubble if we win out and lose in the CUSA tournament final.

more votes, but still 40 teams with more votes than us (if i count right)...the same as last week. so no movement.

In the AP poll, however, also 4 votes (none last week)

I wonder who voted for us? I would think we got votes from the Seattle coach and WKU. Any guesses on the other two?

perhaps the WKU coach is the only one
perhaps the 2 you mentioned are the only 2

I feel like both those options invalidate mathematics as we know it.

you know how the voting works right? its not simply 1 point per vote
(hint--UNC got 791 votes...there are not 791 voters)

Yeah, good point. I assumed that 4 votes meant 4 individual votes, but looking at the poll it's clear that it's 4 points. Whoever voted for us last time could have bumped us up to 22nd in his latest ballot.

since i assume you'll struggle, i'll do the math for you.
IF WKU coach ranked us as 22nd, we'd have 4 votes.
IF 2 coaches each ranked us as 24th, we'd also have 4 votes

I really think MTSU has a good shot at being an at large if they win out until the CUSA final.

Ouch, man. I didn't mean an offence by my first reply. It was just a misguided attempt at humor. Thanks for the explanation though.
