Too many close losses but........
If you take away Purdue and Richmond, we have lost 8 games by a combined 31 pts.
Thats an average of 3.88 pts per loss.
However Im not going to give up on this team till we are knocked out of the conference tournament. We have an easy back half of the schedule and we still have a chance to get a decent seed in the conference tournament. I know this year has not gone the way most people thought but we still need to back our boys till the end.
Go ODU!

RE: Too many close losses
I couldn't agree more. Any loss is disappointing as a fan, but it is even more disappointing for those players. They give 100% and I, as a fan, will support them and their effort 100%.

Anyways, what I didn't realize prior to researching this is that our defense is WAY down, nearly 110 spots from a season ago.
We are locked into what we see as a disappointing offense but JJ most certainly is focused on fixing the defensive issues. We are scoring enough to beat these teams, we just aren't getting stops which are needed for scoring runs like a season ago.

Agree. And some fans take these losses personally...like the team goes out and deliberately looses.

We could be a very dangerous seed in the tournament. I want to knock one team out of the tournament really bad and that is MTSU.

We gave up .905 points per possession last year and are at 0.955 this year.
On offense we scored 1.029 points per possession last year and are at 1.038 points per possession this year.
Granted, our offense should be slightly better and defense slightly worse due to the new rule changes, but yep; we've seen a big drop off on defense.

I'd rather not lose (duh) but with no hope for an at-large and all roads leading to the conference tournament, better to have close losses that force you to work harder and change things up than a bunch of close wins that serve as fools' gold, leading you to hold steady because, hey, we're winning so why mess with a good thing?
Of course, that presumes that close losses aren't combined with holding steady because, hey, we'll start winning if we only stay the course!

Here's a possible problem for March. Last Saturday Freeman ran his ever loving ass off. I'm not sure how much will be left in the tank by March. Can't be a one man show for 4 months worth of games and still have the same stamina you had in early November..

We don't have the depth to win 4 games in 4 days. I like positive thinking as much as the next guy, but this is not the year it's going to happen. Let's be real.

Are last few weekends shows we don't have enough depth to win 2 games in 3 days.

Hence you can' t lose to the lower teir teams like So. Miss. Looks like we will finish in the middle of the pack.

RE: Too many close losses but........
I don't think the format for the tourney has been announced yet. Last year they did a 12 team format leaving out two teams...one of which was So. Miss due to self imposed sanctions. I think So. Miss. will not be in again this year. I read somewhere they are thinking of doing a 13 team bracket most likely with 3 teams getting byes, So, I guess, that means 5 games (ten teams) on Wed., 4 games on Thurs., 2 game Semi on Friday with the final on Saturday. My only confusion is they are advertising the tourney to be Tues. March 8 (banquets and stuff I assume) ending on Sun the 13th. Sunday? Last year it was advertised as Tues thru Sat.

It looks like 13, everyone but USM. Here's a bracket.
