Congrats. We will shine up his MVP award three games into the conference slate.

NIU is on the gloating promenade a little early, huh?

He is an extremely valuable member of the team. he can singlehandedly keep the team in a game WHEN THEY ARE PLAYING POORLY AND MANGUM IS HOT. His style is typical of a sixth man.

Murphy needs to play him right. If the team is playing good, limit his minutes. If the team needs a plan B put Mangum in and give him the green light.

Players like everyone have dispositions. These dispositions can be coached/managed just like talents. these "kids" are 22 year old men. They can grow but won't change. Make use out of what is useful. Ie, Bond to is a valuable player, but not as a sixth man since he is too conservative.

Another thing I really liked tonight was Nobles at forward in the zone with Thompson and Bond. The length was ridiculous. Let's face it, that's likely where Nobles' future is, so I wouldn't mind seeing him get more minutes out there.

We don't have a ton of size, and will struggle rebounding all season, but we do have plenty of length to alter shots and force steals. Nobles adds to that. I thought he looked ok tonight in limited minutes.

My biggest takeaway from last night's game:

We were lucky, fortunate or whatever word one once to use, to win a game which had ALL of the earmarks of a loss because things looked a bit bleak with JT4 in so much foul trouble SO EARLY. I mean EARLY. This was the earliest he has had two fouls...

I thought the game was going to slip away early and be an ugly loss...

We won a game which could have easily been a demoralizing loss...

It will get better next year.

I honestly never really wondered how tall Nazione is before last night. He might be shorter than listed.

Next year we add LWH at his position and could pick up say three inches and a greater wing span.

We'll have big time length and wing span next year with JT4, LWH, and Bond.

Nice win for NIU. Weird seeing Toledo and WMU at the bottom of the MAC. Both struggling right now.

looking at the ratings, Akron still seems to be #1, but it isn't convincing.

NIU is off to a very good start, but they aren't completely convincing. They have to come to the EMU Convo. 03-lmfao

CMU? Who knows?

WMU seems to have lost too much, David Brown and Connor Tava.

Last I checked, Toledo was still a 2-man show, Williams and Boothe.

The MAC tourney in March should be WIDE OPEN.

BTW, this win makes me very happy (compare to last year):

Last year we got our 2nd conference win on January 27... (Ouch!!!).

This is a great win for EMU. This was the first time I have seen EMU go into the locker room at the half and actually make some adjustments in their play. While this was an ugly game at best, I was glad to see some adjustment in the offensive strategy in the 2nd.

JT4 has to stay out of foul trouble (truthfully a lot of the calls last night were weak. Those refs would have called breathing too hard).

I also would love to see more players showing the aggressive style of play that Toney had on display last night. Get to the hoop to score or drop it off or kick it out but DRIVE. Poor shooting night for Ray Lee. He and Toney both need to shoot 100 free throws every day this week.

People, don't buy into NIU, use your eyes and basketball intellect. Let's watch things play out because NIU is a middle of the pack type of team and their supporters are completely unrealistic.

EMU's win was exactly what we all hoped for and expected. The double-double machine got his double-double against Buffalo AND the refs...my concern is with Mangum. Four turnovers in 19 minutes! That is not taking care of the ball. The entire team (other than Willie) had 4! That is phenomenal! Looks like Toney is taking the reigns as the floor leader. He needs to keep progressing. Every good/great team has a reliable PG.

Good production out of the Big 3 (Thompson/Lee/Nazione). When those guys perform up to their standards, we should be tough to beat. Good win, taking care of business.

I wouldn't call it ugly more like sloppy. The only reason we won was because of our freethrows and their turn overs. 07-coffee3

Yeah, beating 3 of the top 5-6 or so teams in the MAC is no reason to believe they are good!

Great observations. Welcome to the board!

That's what I like about Toney the most. Sometimes, as Aaron and others have pointed out on here, he gets a bit reckless and dribbles right into people. But when he plays in control, like he did last night, he's very tough to stop. It helps that he's much bigger than other PGs (at 6'2, 225) and deceptively quick with the ball. Bearden had a really rough night trying to stay in front of Ty.

If he stops taking threes and keeps his head up on drives, he could end up being a darn good player for us.

RE: Game Day: UB
I couldn't agree more. His first step is deadly and you don't see many guys who protect the ball the way he does while he is in the air. While he isn't small, a lot of guys his size get blocked when they drive but he is excellent at using his boy to shield the ball from defenders when he goes up.

I think the biggest person the team needs to address is Mangum. He needs to understand that for this team he is going to be a role player and I think Murphy is beginning to see that. He's a spot up shooter. He needs to play tough defense and get hot when the team needs a boost. The deep 3 he dropped yesterday sparked the team and that's what they need.

Just wanted to stop by and congratulate you guys on a really nice win last night. I still don't fully understand this UB team that could play so well one game (Kent State) and so poorly the next.

You guys have a lot of really good players and will do very well this season.

P.S. I am sorry for anyone that had to sit and watch 82 free throws be taken.

If I have one criticism for Thompson it is that he has to pick his spots on defense. Refs are unpredictable so I think he has to assume that the game will be called tight, therefore he needs to pace himself defensively with the understanding that we are a sub .500 without him on the floor. He is THAT important!

Nobles is too thin and weak to contribute anything meaningful this season.
