Jeremy Rowell, currently DC at Colquitt County High, will be GS's new defensive backs coach. Reading about him I see he was Troy's DC from 2005 to 2012.

Also played QB at Troy and holds the record for the most interceptions thrown. We were glad to see him go.

I guess the bright side is he knows how to coach a db to intercept the ball. :D

The pitchfork gang is out on our board because we hired a "high school coach". But apparently he has a lot of experience at the college level. I know Colquitt County is a powerhouse team in Georgia

If Texas can hire a HS coach as a coordinator GaSo shouldn't think they're better than that.

Again he is our defensive backs coach not coordinator. Apparently we have hired the Central Florida d line coach as our DC

JR has gotten several of his former Troy players to the next level. Some Troy fans will make him the scapegoat for all the defensive ills that led to the downfall of the Trojan Nation, but it wasn't the case. He is a great safeties coach. The staff hit a home run. He deserves the position.

But maybe he will do a better job as your DL coach.

I think the head guy was more at fault for that.

He's coaching DB and not DL.

No idea. Blakeney relied more on his assistants than he should have. And got lazy himself

I can see how his departure has done wonders for the Troy defense.

He was our DC during our title run and we had some great defenses. He was also our DC during our downfall, but as was previously stated, the entire regime and Larry's legecy was coming to an end. I think Rowell's later defenses may have been the product of sticking around in a Bobby Bowden type situation. The guy can coach and is a quality hire. Good catch.

He was also the DC when Neal Brown was OC at Troy. They were both on staff from 06-09. He'll have some insight on the Troy offense (not that you have ever needed it).

I played for blakeney and Rowell so I speak firsthand.. As much as I love blakeney and respect him, he was basically a Bobby Bowden. He left the coaching up to his assistants. Blakeney would ride around on his golf cart overseeing practices and talking on his phone. Rowell was the head man of the defense when he was at troy. He made the calls. So for those of you that think he wasn't the reason our D was horrible makes you people oblivious to the fact. You can blame it on the players, but he recruited the players, brought them in and coached them up.

Oh well. We have a good DC now. Vic Koenning was a home run for us.

But I hope JR well. He was a good DB coach when he was at Troy, just not the head guy for the defense.

Maybe he can bring a few players from Colquitt Co which just won a HS national championship and has dominated Georgia's top level football the last two years.

Plus, we are used to bad DB play at GS so nowhere to go but up.
