App's strength on offense is the run and Ohio is strong against the run defense. Its a very physical team.

Ohio's HC is something like 48-1 when leading at the half. They like to get out early on teams and stay in control.

Last time Ohio played a Bowl against the SBC it won by 30+ points. Its also 9-0 since 2010 against the SBC (2x Louisiana, 1x ULM, 2x UNT, 2x Idaho, 2x NMSU).

07-coffee3

Ohio ranks 50 in the country in Run Defense. App State ranks 6 in Run Offense

It's all good an well how Ohio has done against Sun Belt teams in the past, but that record means nothing because these teams haven't played yet.

Thier SBC record means nothing since they have never played AppState.

Ohio played a tougher schedule than APP ST.

Seven MAC schools are in bowl games. Ohio was 2-2 vs. the teams they played in bowls and both wins were on the road. This is a legit MAC bowl team 8-4 which has been bowl eligible 7 consecutive years.

Its the best Ohio team since at least 2012, maybe 2011. Both those years were bowl wins for Ohio.

The last couple of seasons its a program that has underperformed relative to its talent.

You can see Maleek Irons run here. 44 yard run mowing down 4 BG defenders. Coaches have failed to get him on the field.

http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:14056030

Ohio definitely has the ground game to keep its offense on the field against APP State. They have more problems with passing teams and APP State isn't a big passing team. This APP matchup is a good one for Ohio.

The state of Ohio produces very physical players. By no means is it a weak football state like Massachusetts or Idaho. I wouldn't expect a soft opponent down in Montgomery for App State.

JT is my son and believe me he knows. Many of us have pushed for 1A/FBS a long time and the bowl experience was one of the big reasons. The playoffs are fun, but it's been hard convincing the playoff diehards they didn't know what they were missing by not having your team in a bowl game. Hopefully after this experience they will understand what some of us have been preaching for 30+ years.

Should be a fun one to rewatch sometime.

You can be sure plans are already underway to release a DVD set recapping this historic season. I am certain there will be a copy of the Camellia Bowl included.

Obviously hindsight is 20/20 but I was a little disappointed we didn't blow them out. I rewatched the game, the 4th down and five call swung the momentum in the first half, we were rolling everywhere but on the scoreboard. The score should have said 17-0, but we were only up 7-0 due to a few critical miscues.

Great resilient teams find a way when down and our boys did. Credit to the coaches who made the right adjustments at half. Awesome ending to the season, 11-2 was what most predicted to be our ceiling this year. Can't wait till next year, we will field a veteran team across the board and full FBS depth. Watch out now.

I agree. Depth will be much better next year. However, losing Blair, Chapman and 3 senior WR's will be hard to replace. I know our WR talent is better, but the experience and leadership will be missed. And I don't see another Blair walking through that door. But with depth, we should be able to accommodate injuries much better next year.

I've been to two bowl games before with friends of other schools so I was well aware of what a good bowl experience could be. I'm just glad many of our fans that were anti-bowl are now changing their tune. Many have even admitted this exceeded the National Championships.

I'm thankful that we had such a good location for our fans to get to, and to have a city that treated the game as the biggest event in town. I have a feeling the experience in Orlando (where many fans wanted to go) would have been less exciting as it is just another event in town. I don't care what the pecking order is, but Montgomery is a great site for our fan base.

I can't say enough how awesome the folks in Montgomery were to our group. Everywhere we went they were asking how we liked the city, and if we were having a good time. It was an awesome time and I would love to go back.

The thrashing TROY put on the bobcats in the 2010 New Orleans Bowl must have completely erased your memory of the game even happening.

Troy lead 38-7 at halftime. We're the very reason you decided to move to the spread. Ohio is at the very least 9-2 against SBC teams since 2010. No telling what other SBC losses were omitted during that stretch.

Those days for Troy have returned.

We arrived for the game about lunch on Friday. When we walked into Dreamland BBQ, I thought I was in Boone as the place was packed with Black and Gold (minus one Ohio table.) I can tell you the city wasn't prepared for the number of Mountaineer faithful that made the trip. Railyard Brewery and the Aviator were understaffed for that afternoon. Overall, though, we were welcomed and well treated in Montgomery. The reserved tailgating was a sweet deal- pay to park and get one spot for your vehicle and one to tailgate in. They just needed more than 4 port-a-johns though. The Cramton Bowl needs to invest in some sit down toilets in the women's restroom- according to my wife they had men's urinals in there...
I had no doubt that Matics would hit the game winner. When he was warming up at halftime, our band was finishing up. So he was kicking 25 yard field goals, at an extreme angle, from the edge of the sideline- he made each one. Overall we had a great experience and would only suggest making a few tweaks that I mentioned above...
One last thing, it pissed me off that the full Ohio team was taunting our fans going in for halftime. That was uncalled for but I did notice that not one player made eye contact with out fans coming out for the 2nd half- Solich must have read them the riot act, SMH.

My wife and a girl sitting behind also noticed the issue with the women's toilets. Had to squat to pee. Must be a Alabama thing.

The LB Jevona Johnson and the other LB Queen Poling had very poor sportsmanship. They'd be good transfer candidates for Memphis.

I was unable to make it to the bowl game due to family conflicts, so I had to watch on TV. The thing I noticed that bothered me was ESPN occasionally used our logo from the last decade vs. our current one. They used our current one more often, but the old one would pop up here and there. Everyone seemed to enjoy the game as a whole that were not affiliated with either school. The two sets of barrages of points was pretty unusual, but fun to watch.

Looks like someone's already uploaded the game to youtube if anyone wanted to watch again.
You can also see their coaches and players taunting Mondo Williams on the ground after a hit that sent him to the sidelines at 35:46

lets be fair, I saw a lot of jawing on both sides, and I heard that when the Ohio team came back out after halftime, not one of them looked up in the stands, or said a word to our fans, which leads me to believe the Ohio coaching staff read them the riot act while they were in the locker room. Lets put this to rest, and just enjoy our victory.

First of all, congrats on the win. It was an exciting game sprinkled with fits of frustrations for both teams. I'm sure ASU fans are wondering why they weren't able to pull away and OU fans are wondering why their healthy 1st string QB never saw the field, even when his back up was knocked out of the game.

I have admittedly been critical of the accusations from some ASU fans that Ohio was "classless" for showing a little emotion before halftime, maybe it was worse than the descriptions I've read, I don't know, but this accusation of taunting Mondo Williams is so beyond ABSURD I had to address it here on your board.

Give me a break, the video clearly shows that the ASU player was on the ground for no more than 2 seconds, tops, and was constantly in motion. He was never laying still in pain, or doing anything to indicate an injury. He got lit up, rolled over, and popped back up and began jogging away. Its clear as day.

To suggest that the reaction from the Ohio sidelines to the play was a deliberate act of taunting an injured player is so utterly absurd it defies logic. This kind of off-the-wall accusation by an ASU fan only reinforces my belief that the calls of "classless" behavior by the Ohio team at halftime are equally absurd. You should have quit while you were ahead.

To the vast majority of ASU fans who are reasonable note that I know the views of a few don't represent the views of all. Congrats again on the victory and best of luck next season.

Coaches and sideline players gestured towards him on the ground after a big hit while the Ohio ball carrier wasn't even in the vicinity; that is the definition of taunting. It wasn't extreme but it happened.

Everyone at the game knows the Ohio players taunted the App State fans going into half time. Hell, you can see it 1:07:32 in the video so much so that the refs stood in their way holding them back.

Dude wasn't at the game committing on the halftime actions of the players. It happened and was in poor taste.

The Mondo thing is overblown. That Ohio player trucked our guy and the coaches and player reactions were typical of every sideline. The halftime acts were not.

no rational human being could watch that play in real time and conclude that the reaction of the coaches on the sidelines was for the purpose of mocking an injured player.

But I really want to thank you for pointing out the video at 1:07:32, because with that clip you CLEARLY hear loud booing first followed up with multiple Ohio players reacting to the boos by waving their arms in a "go ahead, bring it on" gesture.

You have provided indisputable video evidence that proves the accusations of "classless" behavior of the Ohio team by some ASU fans are totally without merit. Thank you.
