Will Sun Belt become 10 school all sports league?
With the addition of Coastal Carolina, with the Sun Belt boot Idaho and New Mexico St. in football to stay at 10? If the Sun Belt were to get raided, I don't think it would matter if the conference was at 10 or 12.

You really don't want to end up at 8 with no immediate options.

Are there no immediate options? Both Liberty and EKU would be ready and could be called on at the drop of a hat. Beyond that, you've got a list of schools who would probably consider a move if the right landscape presented itself.

As I said in the other thread: Take it from a WAC veteran -- once your numbers start dropping all those FCS schools who were so excited to take your calls suddenly stop picking up the phone. Then you're screwed.

Does anyone really believe that will happen at any point in the next 6-7 years?

Eh, some things are far more (or less) likely to happen than others.
FWIW, my advice to the SBC would be to extend Idaho and NMSU's football-membership for another four years. But not because I think the Belt is going to be raided anytime soon.

Then my advice would be for you to come to Idaho sometime so I can buy you some beer.

I don't understand Why in the world anyone think there would be any possibility UTA or Little Rock would be expelled. UTA. was just extended an invitation a mere 3.5 years ago. Why would they be granted membership only to have the conference screw them over. And Little Rock has been in the league for a long time. I see no valid reason to boot them.

Yeah, there is no chance we ever dump either school...we like them too much.
The real question is what we do with our football only memberships at the end of the coming year. My guess is they get at least one two year extension...we'll see.

They don't play football is a valid enough reason for me.

Let me rephrase, then.
Arkansas State, ULM, ULL, Troy, and Little Rock, along with a few members who have since left, voted to welcome in non-football UTA in May 2012, starting in the 2013-14 season. Why would those schools have since changed their minds? Keep in mind that Texas State, Ga. State, Ga. Southern, and App State joined the league knowing this league had a pair of non-football members.
So, Why would these university presidents change their minds? What has changed?

I agree. NMSU and Idaho will be around until at least 2020. Then we should see UTA Football as a replacement for Idaho at the least. If NMSU leaves then the best candidate at this time is Kennesaw State.

From Idaho's perspective, I'd say that's all we can ask from this conference and we should be eternally grateful. If we haven't figured out a more permanent arrangement by 2019 we probably need to do some serious soul-searching.
In the meantime, we'll do our best to help the Belt on the field and keep working on long-overdue facilities improvements. A new basketball-only arena is in the works now, followed by football seating expansion.
