unless our leaders are thinking they are about to set up Fuente with a 5 year $12,500,000 contract.... [ $2,500,000 per year for 5 years ]
I'm thinking it's min. 3M for 5 to keep him.

If we do keep him I wonder how many complaints about seat price hikes or TSF donations we'll get here?

Offer him $2.5 million base salary if he agrees to stay for another 3 years. Then add a provision that if we get an invite to a P5 conference before the three year period ends we retroactively go back and give him $500,000 a year for each of those three years and another $500,000 per year to be split between his staff. If we are unable to obtain membership in a P5 conference by that time he is free to look elsewhere if he wishes. If we are able then we can afford to give him an even better contract and he can become the Gary Patterson of Memphis football.

I said my source was very reliable. But, here is what may be happening as well. Fuente's price tag goes up with each win. So, expect to see him in the $5 to $6 million range it he wins the remaining games including a bowl game. Fuente is VERY HOT and S Carolina wants him. My guess is....he is their #1 prospect right now unless we lose 2 or more games this year. All things point to Houston and Temple as key games. The more games we win....the more Bowen and Rudd need to think about their options and the depths of our pockets. I really hope we can keep Justin but there are so many factors at play here, including the influence of Gary Patterson and why he felt it important that he stay at TCU. I think if I was Bowen, I would be calling the AD at TCU and discussing why Patterson was convinced to stay at TCU and see if we can make the same pitch and offer to Fuente. The comparisons here between us and TCU are fairly evident.
I will just say this if you had 3,000 die hard Tiger fans each willing to give $1,000 a year for 5 years to maintain Fuente as coach how hard would that be? Thats 3,000,000 a year . If I was Bowen I would be getting commitments and give him the money he deserves to stay here and show B12 we mean business.
It would also help tremendously if we could put 45,000 a week in the Liberty Bowl.
I think CJF is a lot like Patterson. This is his baby, he built it, he's got a lot of sweat equity here. He's got it going in a conference that he can contend in at this pace. We can be the next Boise or TCU, right here right now.
Pay the man!!

He's likely very happy at MSU but you never know about guys and the school from which they graduated. But SC will make that serious inquiry before doing anything else. Also the current interim will be Spurrier's choice & although he has stated clearly he won't attempt to influence the decision, the SC admin already knows where Spurrier stands. Sc is not a good job for a young coach wanting to move up. SC is a small state with limited recruits & following Spurrier is not what most up and coming coaches will want. SC will pay big $$$ & that could influence a name coach who would like to coast for a few years much like Lou Holtz did.
Kirby Smart, AL D coordinator seems to be the name most mentioned around here.

I'm not sure any school has paid more money for more years to be so mediocre as South Carolina. They had a couple of good years, but the return on the investment just hasn't been there. Maybe they will decide to start from scratch-lower the HC salary, scrap the coaching staff, and rebuild from the ground up.
The last time they hired a HC, they figured paying big money to get the big name coach would get them over the hump. They lost a decade discovering that didn't work.

Maybe we can hire Sexton to convince SC to take Lane Kiffin

If you are objective, Spurrier attaining a #4 in the country ranking & winning 11 games 3 years in a row is surely getting "over the hump". But that list of achievements is probably the high water mark for SC & for anyone to think they might achieve higher is unrealistic. Spurrier did many other things, during his time - donations more than doubled & their facilities improvements put them at the top in the country. And for a traditional also ran, they have tremendous fan support.

RE: Fuente being looking at for South Carolina job...
There is a tremendous amount if honing to be done by Coach Fu' on nuances of coaching....Most don't understand or realize this.....This is actually occurring NOW while simultaneously winning and that's a tremendous bonus as well as testament to the amount of work that is being put in "sweat equity" to the legacy being built here....That being said, whether Coach Fu' wants to continue building that legacy remains to be seen.....I do understand that on some occasions, the decisions are pre-determined and the processes are just a formality. If Memphis is poised to crescendo & there is interest from perverbial "P" conferences, WE crescendo together. If WE (Memphis) is NOT on ANY "P" conference radar, then Fuente could be pursuaded/convinced to chose other options. .
That doesn't necessarily equate to success, IMO....Coaches that are hired guns & expected to do the same or even gr8er than they did @ their previous job are under immense pressure;scrutiny as the leash is extremely short, if it has any slack @ all.....The circumstances are NOT that gr8 considering the High Stakes of winning and the shinanigins that come with it......As I have stated previously.....A guaranteed $5 mil per contract....Where you are given 2-3 window to deliver (under high/immense pressure) .....Coach Fu could earn that here (albeit over a longer time frame) as he could easily earn 20+ mil over 6-7 years;build a legacy;send massive numbers of players to the NFL;Create opportunities for his staff and NEVER have to sweat about job security. .....I really feel that Coach is looking @the BIGGER picture! Which it's SAD that right here even WE don't realize that MEMPHIS IS THE BIGGER PICTURE!
The recruiting bed is immense, & in this short time-frame,we can beat anyone in the Nation.......We MUST understand that Cal is Cal.....There are NOT many like him.......Coach Fu' is a uniquely talented soul...And Memphis brings out the BEST in him, as does he brings out the BEST I in Memphis. ..It's the PERFECT scenario & I'm quite certain that his mentor has expressed similar points
