I was very happy to see the unsportsmanlike penalties limited, the coaches chatting and the players greeting each other after the game.

We also got away with a couple of muggings.
So did they. Lots of holds on our pass rushers. Refs swallowed whistles and let the teams play.

Good game.

You have no idea. Our entire season has looked like tonight. Nixon is not a QB. Our backup is a pretty darn good passing QB, but he doesn't fit the style of play we like to run. It's unbelievabley frustrating.

First time I saw the Cajuns this year doesn't even have the same feel to the program over the last 4 years. I guess Western will have a fall off next year..just hope it's not this far.

Plenty of time left on the drive before this last one to use tempo and dink passes and 5 yard runs to march it down the field to get any score to give you a chance. ..

a freaking tightend would have destroyed ASU tonight with 5 to 8 yard passes over the middle

Get to see a passing qb in Arbuckle next. Defense will need to stay on point because we can't rely on our offense to win games by themselves

Sad part is that we have two very good receiving TEs in the program. But we don't find a way to utilize them. We have a crap QB.

I feel pretty secure in saying that Arbuckle will spend most of his time looking up at the sky wondering who let a truck onto the field.

You're right, though. Our offense needs to play at least as well as they did this game to put a proper beating on the Panthers.

Never felt good about this game even when we had a big lead. UL can come back on you in a hurry. McGuire could not run tonight but did a nice job catching passes to bring the Cajuns back. When we did not score from the one in the second half really had a bad feeling. Good clean game...glad to see that.

RE: Seven decades of competition Astate vs Louisiana thread
Cajuns entire offense today was either a QB run by Nixon, or a pass to McGuire. We completely shut down McGuire on the ground, but we failed to get men on him on pass routes in the 3rd quarter, and it cost us 13 points. It was clear we knew early on that Nixon had issues throwing the ball, played a lot of man coverage and pretty much dared him to beat us.

I am concerned how we missed his speed though. 201 yards rushing for a QB should never happen.

RE: Seven decades of competition Astate vs Louisiana thread
Just got home. 1st half unbelievable. Knew UL had the talent to come back and make it a game, but stAte also got too conservative and failed to put Cajuns away. 1st and goal from the 2 and no points, 1st and 10 from our 45 and we throw a bad pick. This was a rival game. UL was not going to go away quietly. McGuire is probably best player in the belt. QB is fast and big, just not a passer.

If App wins on Thursday, then our game with them in Boone should be for the conference title. UL still can make some noise and will duke it out with USA for the 4th bowl slot.

Good clean game. Anderson said he and Hud talked about not letting things get out of hand like last year. That was a good call. We need our teams to look classy on TV.

Looking forward to Thursday nite FunBelt!

AState's "conservative" play was Knighten having a lousy night and the coaches choosing to take the game out of his arm.
Cajuns didn't have that luxury and Nixon put up 203 of his 253 in the second half. He ran only three fewer times in the second half but put up 162 rushing first half and only 39 the second. He averaged 14.7 per carry first half and just under 4.9 the second.

Though our departing fans seranading the Cajuns with a chant of "ACT" was a nice a touch...got to give people credit for that one.

Had they wanted to open the game up again they could have, but why take the chance of your qb killing you. Better to just shut it down.

That the defense give up a few big plays, verses making them grind it out, was the only issue A-State should be concerned with, but no other team on your schedule will have a player that required as much of your attention as ULL did.

Also USA and ULL were the two teams the 'credible' sources, and the posters here feel were the other contenders for the #3 spot right now, and your team was much more athletic over all than either.

Bottom line is that if your qb's don't beat you, and they are ready, willing and able to do so, not many teams left on you schedule appear capable of doing so.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned the opening kickoff and all the punching while on the ground that lead not to, a penalty for ULL, but to their player getting booed pretty badly. (big whoop) What was that all about? The ref was right there watching the whole thing.

App will have a lot of fun with it. Not sure the crowds you will face at Georgia State and USA will do enough to make a big thing of it.

It only took us most of the 1st half to figure out that AState was not going to allow Eli to beat them on the ground. I am not a fan of our OC at all.
Great game by the Red Wolves. Good luck to yall the rest of the way.
