Ragin Cajuns win National Title in..............
Water Skiing 04-rock

Quote:The University of Louisiana's water ski team won the Division 1 national title at the 37th Collegiate Water Ski National Championships at the Lakes at Cypress Hill in Cypress, Texas, held on Oct. 15-17. This is the first time the team has taken the national title since 2010 and their sixth since the team was founded in 1988.

The Ragin' Cajuns scored 12,845 points to take the title, Florida Southern College finished second with 11,965 points. Four-time defending champion University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) added up 11,375 points to take third.

The UL team won every event, men's and women's slalom, trick, and jump, a first in championship history.

yes. water skiing is actually weighted to count for 25% of your overall score.

Isn't that a bit of an upset, I thought ULM had the best Water Skiing team in the country...or was I simply commenting on the attractiveness of the female members of their team and not caring about the results?

I think the Cajuns had also won a national tournament a few weeks ago as well. I think I remember reading ULM has won the tournament like 26 times with the Cajun finishing second quite a few of those. I think for the past couple of years UL has won individual events (even 5 of 6) but have lost the team competitions due to ULM's superior depth. It looks like the the Cajuns took all six events in the team competitions so the Cajuns appear to have the better depth this year. I did see where they will be losing four seniors (2 men, 2 ladies) so next year will require a little rebuilding.

Historically ULM has won more titles, but in the years where ULM hasn't won, it's typically the Cajuns who are the champs. But the two programs are typically 1 and 2.

Congrats on the championship and the consistency of the two school's programs. I seem to remember Texas State won it once several years back. Were they competing this year?

I did see some Texas State skiers on the live feed they had going for the event but the Cajuns are in Division 1 and Texas State is in Division 2. Attached is a link to a post tournament article which mentions the divisions.
