Niu officially does not scare me, history aside, and western are central still have Michigan in their names.

Might wanna take the 's' off of 'fans'. He's the only one I've seen say he's not worried about NIU.

Enjoyed the atmosphere at BC. No loud recorded music whatsoever.
All entertainment was provided by the band and the students. Had some entertaining time-out events too. Enjoyed the hot dog eating contest!

Speaking of attendance, the reported attendance for NIU / Miami was just over 20K. That is more than their homecoming game against Cincinnati. Yager only holds 24K. After watching the game, no way that thing was close to filled.

We have to start figuring out how all these other schools are reporting 20k with a straight face for these games, it looked like 12-16k on TV. Only fair we report on the same basis.

I say we pull an EMU and pre-report 21k for homecoming!

I say we report 23,127 which looks like a real number and not one that I just pulled out of a hat, and it looks good. And it's apparently what many other schools are doing.

The AAC is doing pretty well in attendance. I'm sorry, the MAC is simply inept when it comes to fan support.

Would be a lot easier to draw fans getting teams like ole miss for occ and most of the AAC at your home stadium.

Actual attendance or reported attendance?

It's our fault. We're too busy riding our tractors.

That attendance figure from the Miami is such crap. At its peak, which was probably midway through the first half, you would have struggled to fill one side of the stadium if everybody sat on one side. 14,000 tops and that's being really generous.

Yep. There is no way it was close to 20K. I agree that 14K is tops. Probably closer to 12K, if even that.

We are stupid for not reporting more.

Not attendance related, but during the game, announcers said Miami was spending $22,000,000 on their new football building.

Based on all these comments, it appears that some MAC schools are "cooking the attendance books"......makes you stand back and ask "why would NIU move forward with stadium expansion? why not just upgrade restrooms, concessions, the pregame experience??

Probably because it allows us to bring in schools like Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin who would fill the stadium.

RE: #22 Toledo's Stadium is half empty
Several issues:

1) NIU is more or less in a pro city. The only pro city that doesn't have a substantial college football attendance penalty is Atlanta.
2) Illinois doesn't have CFB as religion the way other parts of the country do.
3) The TV experience is better than 90% of the CFB experience. Bleachers made of recycled WWII Battleships. Butt allotments that make flying coach seem roomy and spacious. Every timeout is crammed with commercials instead of putting up ESPN Goal Line or highlights from other conference games on the jumbotron. The NFL is learning from this. All new stadiums are 100% chairback seating. Several NFL teams now put NFL RedZone on the jumbotron during timeouts. I suspect the next step is a more MLB type experience where you have nice restaurants etc built into the stadium. MLB is the absolute best as maximizing the theater of the event and providing a rich experience that takes many games to sample everything. Because MLB has so many more games it has necessitated they innovate more on this front.
4) Despite TV being stupid expensive these days .... at least at big time programs it is actually cheaper to get TV than it is to go to the games. You're not getting a single ticket even in the nosebleeds to go to a GT-UGA game in Atlanta for under $100/seat. It just aint happenin'. I don't know what ticket prices are like at NIU, but amongst people I know who are fans of various ACC/SEC schools, the schools are actually hitting a price point where they are pushing away more budget conscious fans. Don't forget the $20 to park, $10 a drink, $5 a hot dog. If you're totin' around young uns it adds up fast.
