RE: Open Thread - Week 4
8 games OOC this weekend, including 2 FCS gimmes (at least I hope they are gimmes). One other sorta gimme in State-South Alabama. Nobody expects Cuse to beat LSU.

That leaves four games to shape the perception of the league. Va Tech seems a good bet to beat East Carolina - a loss here would certainly hurt our image. The other three could go either way. BC is a 4pt favorite over Northern Illinois, and UVa a 2 1/2 point underdog to Boise. Indiana-Wake could go either way (there is no betting line yet on this game).

IMO, 3 or more losses this week will hurt the image of the league, and the CFP prospects of its eventual champion.

Go, Eagles!

Would a poor showing this weekend hurt anymore than that opening weekend failure-to-launch or subsequent ooc losses in weeks 2 and 3?

We will still be undefeated at the end of this week. #1 (tied?) in the ACC!

Undefeated? Yes.

Tied for #1? No. Florida State, Clemson and Syracuse will still be ahead of you. But good try. LOL.

Go Deacs!

Wake's QB John Wolford will likely be a game-time decision, depending on how his ankle injury is healing. The backup, Kendall Hinton, got ACC Rookie of the Week honors for his play on Saturday, stepping in after Wolford got injured. Hoping for a Wake win for Homecoming! 03-cool 04-wine 06-football

I don't know anything about Hinton, but I know that if Wolford is playing and he is healthy, Wake should beat Indiana.

I hope the Deacs don't take Indiana too lightly. They have been awful in recent years, but they may be improved this year. They haven't played a murderer's row so far, but they haven't lost either. And Western Kentucky is pretty decent.

Just wait till we beat FSU. Then we'll be #1 in the ACC. Miami is so much better than FSU this year.

The ACC doesn't need teams to beat FSU......it needs teams to make it to the playoffs.

Seen too many ACC teams beat FSU over the years and then do ZIP to advance the ACC on the national level.....yet they think they accomplished something. It doesn't.

The ACC doesn't need teams to JUST beat FSU......it needs teams to make it to the playoffs.

FIFY. Obviously in order to be a playoff team they will have to beat FSU (or beat the team that beat FSU).

Bigger point, EVERY ACC TEAM should have as its goal going 4-0 in non-conference games (3-1 if you are a weaker team and the ACC assigns you to play Notre Dame). NO EXCEPTIONS! There is no reason to ever schedule a game you can't win, and there is no reason to lose a game you should win...

Indiana's QB has put up some big numbers so far, almost 1,000 yards passing in three games.

Again, look at the competition but prepare for a good passing QB.

Vegasinsider.com finally posted the line on the Indiana-Wake game. The Hoosiers are favored by 3 1/2 points on the road against the Deacons. Wolford still listed as questionable, leaning toward doubtful.

Well, the other teams aren't gonna lay down and lose on (wink-wink) purpose because y'all think the ACC doesn't need teams to beat FSU.

If that's the case, might as well call Vince McMahon and Triple H to script the entire season, competition be damned.

FSU, just like everybody else, needs to compete and prove it.

Yea....that's the ACC's issue...whether FSU proves it on the field.......OK.

Think folks missed the point...almost NO team in the ACC that beat FSu in a season went on to do anything with it. Thus it means nothing.

What team beat FSU and played for a national title in the ACC? ZERO.

What team beat FSu and won a BCS bowl? ZERO

What team beat FSU and played in the playoffs? ZERO

What team beat FSu and finished in the top 5? ZERO

Point is.....the goal isn't about beating FSU...it is about having a season that advances your program in the eyes of the nation. Winning the ACC doesn't do that. Just beating FSU doesn't do that.....the accomplishments above are what needs to happen to do that......and you need MANY years of that happening.

Beating FSu and then tanking means squat.

Nole, I thought I had you... but the year VT actually won a BCS bowl (2008-09 season), the Hokies actually LOST to FSU during the regular season and then beat BC in the ACC CG... the years VT beat FSU (and the one year Clemson won the ACC) resulted in BCS losses... that STINKS!
