You gotta be kidding me! Alabama wasn't wasting energy on MT!
They allowed them to leave with dignity.

3) USM -- victory expected against FCS Pee
They beat an FCS team too, how are they ranks so high?
4) La Tech -- close game against WKU
5) FIU -- another close P5 loss, showing promise
6) Marshall -- disappointing loss to Bobcats
7) ODU -- not a great showing vs FCS Norfolk
It was a super storm and it was lightning. The game was delayed for like 2 hours! They only allowed a field goal and the touchdown was on a blocked punt. Every single time they got into the red zone, we stopped them. NSU is actually one of the better FCS teams. I hate people that don't know anything about college football puts in their pocketlint! (You aint worth 2 cents)

Since when is NSU one of the better teams in FCS. They have only made the playoffs 1 time. I do think they are getting better and have several FBS transfers on their roster but they are not one of the better FCS teams as of now.

03-lmfao Good one, for a minute I thought you were serious.

The HBCU are bad even for FCS standard. The SWAC and now the MEAC don't even play in the FCS Playoffs, no chance of them winning plus more money for Cultural Bowl

Got this from wikipedia, Norfolk State has been to the playoffs once 03-lmfao:
The Spartans have appeared in the FCS playoffs one time with an overall record of 0–1.

Yeah, sorry ODU brethren - NSU ain't one of the top FCS teams.

HOWEVER - we played fine vs. them and I don't think our performance warrants being at the bottom of the list. I would say we are bottom third right now...but not in the last 3.

RE: Week 2 CUSA Very Little Power Ranking
I can definitely understand the overall impression that ODU has been underwhelming in its first two wins. Win or lose, the game this week against NC State should give us all a little better perspective on the relative strength of the Monarchs.

The NSU game was a little strange for a number of reasons.

First, it is a cross-town rivalry with the two schools only being about four miles apart. A lot of the players on both teams work out together in the summer and know each other pretty well, and I think that realtionship results in NSU perfoming better than normally as they have been the clear underdog the three times the teams have played.

Second, the game was delayed twice due to lightning. A heavy thunderstorm hit about an hour prior to kickoff, tailgating parking lots were inundated and the start of the game was delayed about twenty minutes. It rained the last half the second quarter, and all fans had to leave the field at half time with another thunderstorm rolling in. The vast majority of fans did not return after a hour and a half delay. It then rained off and on during the second half. Overall, it was terrible weather conditions for a ball game.

Third, although ODU's receiver corps has consistently been exceptional with excellent hands, our receivers for some reason (rain?) had a hard time holding onto the ball. We did not throw that much, but dropped balls made the passing game look mediocre while in fact our redshirt freshman quarterback played a solid game and was accurate on most all of his 22 throws. (The one interception was a glaring exception.)

Fourth, the Monarch defense held the Spartans to a single field goal. The NSU touchdown came on a blocked punt that was picked up and run in for the score.

Finally, ODU clearly dominated just about every aspect of the game from the get go. But with the game winding down, NSU had the opportunity to pull within one TD following a big play on a wide receiver screen that took the ball down to the two or three yard line. The defense rose to the ocassion by forcing and recovering a fumble on the next play.

If you did not watch the NSU game, here are some stats to help you understand that the game really should not have been as close as the score indicates:

Team Totals NSU ODU
FIRST DOWNS 14 24
NET YARDS RUSHING 103 338
NET YARDS PASSING 163 122
TOTAL OFFENSE YARDS 266 460
Possession Time 25:23 34:37

However you slice it though, ODU is 2-0 with a huge three game series coming up against NC State and APP State (both at home) and Marshall on the road. If we get through those games with even one win, we are half way to being bowl eligible with seven games to go. At this point, I like our chances.

You could talk me into moving MT or USM up a level.

Sorry for offending the ODU fans but thus far I haven't seen a very good team. Next week will be much more clear. I hope you guys are good but not blowing out Norfolk isn't a good sign.

No, I agree. I've seen good elements in most all parts of the game but it's yet to come together this year. The second half of the EMU game started to spark but in general we'll need a better effort all around to compete against better competition. I think we'll see continued progress and be a much better team finishing the season hopefully it starts this week.

RE: Week 2 CUSA Very Little Power Ranking
To be honest, I'm not sure why USM-TXSt would be considered an upset regardless of who wins, at least at the moment.. the stats say the two are pretty even (although TxSt's passing defense yards allowed is a lot worse than ours.. so maybe if Mullens is on target??)

Admittedly our comparisons are only USM vs. MooU and TxSt vs. FooU and then each with a FCS blowout win. If Mullens is on target and receivers hang on to footballs... I could see this game in a run-away for USM..

QB Stockstill is talented enough to win 8 this season as a freshman.

HC Stockstill ran a trick play on the Bama 11 yard line, blowing up a critical red zone drive early.

To show you how weak the CUSA is. ODU has the second longest win streak at 5 and WKU is at 7.

Not that big of deal. Half of the the top 64 end their season with a loss every year. Lots of really good schools with a streak of 2 right now

It was a disappointing weekend for the conference. There were a few bright spots, but overall we underachieved. The Marshall loss really hurts and I wish we could have grabbed one big upset. Rice played very poorly.

LOL
No we aren't looking too good right now, but to compare, Tennessee has the longest win streak in the SEC right now with 3... Does that make the SEC weak?

1. WKU- Vandy looked good vs. Georgia for the most part and we beat preseason best team in West..? remains how we do without Allen rest of the way?
2. La. Tech- Driskel is tough, Dixon is just wow
3. FIU - Still an impressive win at UCF, hung with IU the whole way until bad play at the end to make score worse than it was
4. Marshall- You need a QB but talent still there on defense and still have Johnson at RB
5. Rice- Cannot count out the Owls
6. MTSU- Will Grammar take job back with a shaky freshmen at the helm? Or will coach's son cause a QB controversy and divide their team?
7. FAU - Hope Johnson is back healthy or it could spell some trouble ahead
8. Southern Miss- Still a lot to prove, but I think they will finish top 5 before its all said and done
9. Charlotte - 2 easy teams to open, will be interesting to see how they stack up vs. MTSU
10. UTSA - Tough schedule to start so they can move up rather easily
11. UTEP - Defense seems to have taken a step back, did they lost a lot of starters from last year?
12. ODU- Not sold yet with a shaky freshman QB and still as suspect defense, however Lawry could get this team bowl eligible easy, he is the real deal
13 UNT- Showed me very little last week

ODU below UNC-c... Okay then.

We'll find out for sure @ODU later this season. You guys should have a relatively easy win.
