You may not care, but other people certainly do. The season is not over by a long shot. If you knew anything about college football (and apparently you don't) you would know that many teams have lost the first or second game of the season and then go on to win a conference or even the national championship. Like they say, "One game does not make a season." Case in point, last year Ohio State lost to Virginia Tech in their 1st and went on to with the playoffs and the NC.

I don't think he was saying that the rest of the season doesn't matter, just that those four teams played so bad that they weren't even worth ranking. Just a few interchangeable bad performances.

No, this is the correct way, A season, one game doesn't make.

Wow! Everyone ranking Troy 3rd... Haven't seen this in some time.

But seriously we did look improved for sure. I've not seen this kind of energy in 5 years or more.

We were in this game till middle of the 3rd quarter when our QB was bulldoze. After that we couldn't get back on track it seemed.

All I can say, even after getting plastered, stAte will win the belt this year. Mark it down.

RE: How would you rank the Belt after week one?
1. ULL-Kentucky isn't a bad team, went bowling last year, and looks like they will again this year. To get down by 2 tds, in Kentucky and come back to almost win the game showed alot of character, Kentucky was lucky to get out with a win.
2. App- Howard was a bad team, but, lately, Apps had a bad habit of letting bad teams hang around, not yesterday, this game was over by mid 2nd quarter, they had only 4 first downs in the first half, and didn't cross App's 45 yd line, I believe, all day. App fans got what they wanted, a team that looked and played like a good FBS team, and gave Howard no hope from the opening kickoff.
3.Texas State- only down 14-10 late in the second quarter, had the FS faithful squirming in their seats, forced FSU to take them seriously, score got out of hand because TS ran out of bodies, and FSU decided to punish TS late, and run up the score, the score didn't show it, but FSU was in a game for atleast the first half.
4. Troy- not bad, moved the ball in the first half, scored on NCST, but defense couldn't get off the field, nice showing
5.USA- almost joined GaSt as the most embarrassing loss this weekend, but, give them credit, refused to lose, got the job done.
6.ArkSt-asking too much to travel cross country, different time zone, to play maybe the most athletically talented team in the country, not going to see 6'4 230 receivers who run sub 4.4 in the SBC. Still, expected them to atleast a competitive game into the 3rd, disappointing
7.GS- expected them to play alot closer, alot of talk from GS fans that Upshaw and the new OL would be fine, turns out, atleast for one game, they need alot of work. Scary thing going forward is the HC wanted a more balanced offense, with more emphasis on the passing game, 0 passing yds in the first half, until they can show a decent passing game, teams are going to load up the box and dare them to throw the ball.
8.ULM, New Mexico, Idaho-about what we expected, probably going to be a long season
9.GaSt-nothing left to say, game they had to win, didn't show up in the first half, but atleast they played better in the second half, unless things change quickly, probably the last season for the HC and his staff

Could not agree more. Besides just being butt uigly Yaller they have modern stripes on the pants and traditions stripes on the sleeves. They didn't look nearly as bad from the stands as they do up close.

stAte was 2 time zones from home. The game kicked off at 10:00 our time. FYI
It didn't play a part in the loss, but it made it tough on the fans.

Troys defense did a better job yesturday than all of last year... We gave NCSU a few 3 and outs and nearly had a goal line stance until they went for it on 4th a short.

I saw players attacking the ball and lots of energy. NCSU just has some big boys and they were the better program. They will likely make some noise this year.

03-lmfao Man, I feel for you Stan . . . . It's been a tough week . . . . . The only thing I can think of, worse than losing a day game to Charlotte, is to end up in Laredo with no idea as to how you got there . . .

If you have time, slip over the border for The Donkey Show . . . .

Watch out for the Cartels . . . .

You need bus money to get back to Atlanta?

I think our defense is better than last year. By Sun Belt play we will have Ellison back so I expect the offense to be entirely different with him. If the offensive line can improve no reason why we won't have the same results as last year in conference play.

WV on the road with a deer in headlights QB not designed to run the option with a new OL was a recipe for disaster.

2012 was a similar situation that started out as a disaster when we lost to the Citadel. We had a QB that was completely lost and a new OL. Once we changed QBs things came together and we made it to the semifinals losing a close game to NDSU.

RE: How would you rank the Belt after week one?
After a good night's sleep I feel better about our game last night. There were positives and negatives but overall I think we did alright.

Some negatives
Our receivers were essentially shut down by their DB's led by their future potential overall #1 draft pick Jalen Ramsey
Our Dline could not hang with their Oline but with every guy on their line being a 4 or 5 star guy I kinda saw that coming and their star RB ran all over us
They replaced Winston with a guy that has already won a national championship... nuff said
Their receivers were just to quick for our defensive backs to handle, our receivers on the other hand looked really slow.

Some positives
Our Oline kept Jones on his feet in pass protection which was a pleasant surprise, especially with the one time #1 recruit in the nation (DE Josh Sweat) getting shut down by our LT Adrian Bellard.
Only 1 turnover and it was a backup RB late in the game, no interceptions made me happy.
The question mark we had replacing our Punter is now a strength, field position is overlooked in importance these days.
Jones looked good physically, now that he has bulked up hopefully he has the strength to make those hard down field throws. It's to bad we didn't get to see him air it out against their starters.
21-10 at the half I feel like is a respectable score going against a top 10 team, after that they were just to deep with talent and we got gassed.
No injuries!
Oh and only 1 penalty the whole game

Overall i'd give it a C. We can and will do better against lesser opponents, I think we are in for a good year when the kinks get worked out.

RE: How would you rank the Belt after week one?
My ranking so far
1. ULL -tough loss to a P5 team
2. App- easy win over an easy team
3. TXST
3. Arkansas State
3. ULM - the 3's played top 10 teams what did you expect?
6. Troy - Good job putting up points on a decent to good P5 team
7. Idaho - could have been better but hey at least you didn't get blown out
8. USA - hard win over an easy team
9. NMSU - didn't watch the game but at least you got in the end zone
10. Georgia Southern- c'mon at least score a point... they weren't even ranked.
11. Georgia State - You are better than this get it together.

Hate to disagree too much with this but IMO the biggest change in 2012 was the offensive line changes after the App game. Brandavious Mann was just a tad too small at center and once we put Maxwell there we really took off. That was a midseason adjustment and was done with two seniors. We do not have that luxury this year.

Yesterday was much worse than the 2012 Citadel game, and there is nothing more to look at than 5 turnovers as the main culprit.

I don't think the offense will be radically different than what was attempted last night, with Ellison in there. The offensive line had a few moments of nice pass protection, but coupled with either no separation from the WR or poor passing it was a recipe for failure.

I'm far more concerned in finding our starting 5 on the line, and sticking with them to let them get their reps together. There was at least one guy out there (not going to name names) that had a pretty poor performance when isolated and I'm pretty sure the coaches will rectify that via the depth chart, but only time will tell.

I'm pretty sure I know exactly who you are talking about that had a poor performance on the line. Looked lost at times.

No way I'm even gonna try ranking the conference after a week of:

Playing top tier P5 teams (though I think Kentucky will be more middle of the road SEC, not top tier), and
FCS teams.

The only teams that played games you MIGHT be able to glean something from is Idaho & Georgia State. Most figured they would be towards the bottom of the conference, and that appears to be coming to fruition.

You clearly didn't watch future opponent ODU yesterday against Eastern Michigan. Those EMU unis may be the worst I have ever seen. App's gold jersey looks fantastic with the black pants. I'm not big on mono looks, though.
