If I were Coastal or EKU I'd pass on the Sun Belt.

Wondering if the Big South will dissolve, as far as football, and if any of the programs will join the SoCon?

Location, location, location, and pleasing to Ga Southern, Ga State, and App State. It will result in a decent geographic eastern division.

RE: Sun Belt Expansion
Slightly off topic:

The non-power 5 conferences of FBS should get together with the FCS conferences and re-align based on geography. Focus on creating rivalries with schools close by and create their own network to be distributed by local channels (similar to the old Jefferson-Pilot).

If the SEC and the like all move to 9 conference games it will change a lot of things.

RE: Sun Belt Expansion
It wasn't a month ago that the Sun Belt commissioner encouraged the schools to stop scheduling the "money" games against the Power 5 conferences and instead schedule peer institutions.

I don't think that the Sun Belt makes a lot of sense for Coastal right now (I didnt think it was right for Appy State either) and especially not if they try to cut back on the money games.

And, the additional funding for athletic scholarships, of course, is primarily for the power five conferences, thus placing additional financial pressure on these non-power five conferences. Could be that there will be another major shake up among these non-power five schools over the next decade. And, could be that the power five schools will eventually separate completely from the rest.

Not sure what the Sun Belt is doing. Coastal and EKU aren't great programs overall.

They want 12 football schools in order to have a championship game, plus please App State with a travel partner, per their commissioner.

Actually, expansion is for their non-football sports (with the football championship game rules changing) plus the App State travel partner issue, per below article.
Did they even vote on Sunday for expansion?

This is coming in a few years. The time will come when the Power five conferences split into their own deal, and when that goes down I think we'll see a window where FCS teams that want to move to the new division of the group of 5 teams can move up, so long as they can find a conference home. I believe we'll see the majority of the Missouri Valley Football Conference and Big Sky go up (NDSU, Montana, Montana State, UNI, etc...), and more geographically relevant I think Kennesaw State, ETSU, UTC, Liberty, EKU, Eastern Illinois, James Madison, Richmond, Mcneese State, Nicholls State, and Sam Houston for sure. At that point you could see a geographical realignment to give these all of these programs major travel relief.

RE: Sun Belt Expansion
Sun Belt now the FBS transitional league? Note, Coastal only started football the year ETSU dropped its eighty year old program. Not many years back, App State and some other SoCon schools had some issues with scheduling this upstart school. And, it seems the SoCon had snubbed membership feelers from them, right? Wow, so much traditional stuff in college athletics is dead or dying as $$$ drives this thing.
