You don't talk to your star player? It's the coaches job to have a strong relationship with his players. They should be comfortable and encouraged to come talk about what's on their mind.

Perhaps this coach doesn't value relationships or isn't very good a developing relationships with players. There is no reason to be blind-sided. A player's not talking to you? alarm bells. Reach out find out.

Some folks make a good first impression, but find it hard to develop relationships.
