What is Your Schools Tailgate Like?
I haven't been to any tailgates for conference schools other than WKU (obviously) & MTSU.
I gotta say I did enjoy MTSU's tailgate. The main spot was a little bit of a hike to the stadium, but I liked the "grove" like atmosphere. MTSU still sucks though
For WKU, I'll just share a couple photos.

I haven't been to enough to rank them yet. The only one in the belt that was better than ours IMO was ULL. Maybe it's my love for Cajun food but their tailgates are top notch.

We just have 20 square city blocks completely filled with green and white anywhere there isn't a building in the way. If we could get everyone who tailgates to actually by a ticket and walk in the stadium and get counted, I think we'd average 40k+

we had this really cool spot....was right next to the stadium and housed a majority of the tailgaters
now we have this unsightly, oversized mausoleum in it's place, a parking area, and a dorm
just the compare/contrast of concrete shading against the stadium in the background is a joke
now people are scattered all over the place in little groups....just like 'murica relative to what people used to call neighborhoods
there are so many things that could've been done differently
hell, even today, we could move the practice field on the north side over to pride field and utilize that....
but nah, we'll just keep doing the same stupid shite moving forward.....I've lived here long enough to have that crystal ball....

Stink, you are referring to the Loyalty Field which has indeed been replaced with buildings of various use. I dont think that the majority of our tailgaters were there but it did hold the highest concentration. It was considered the cross roads of the world because everyone from all the other tailgate areas always found time to stroll through the packed area which actually was quiet dangerous as I remember due to all the different hot cook wear, bbq pits, etc. jammed so closely together. Its amazing that no one, to my knowledge, was ever seriously hurt. Biggest negative was cars were jammed in and couldnt leave until game was over and everyone else moved on out. Those were the good ole days, TCU or Houston or Cal or Nebraska in town, overflow of people of which many did not go into the stadium. Boy, the bottom fell out fast but we will be back.

we lost something in fan experience when that was eliminated....some things can't be replaced....having a huge area right next the stadium is something most schools never had....at least I got to enjoy it for 35 years....my group longer exists b/c of that and the other handful that I hang with are still pissed
tailgating now vs. then is as night is to day....it's completely lack luster in totality....I said it would happen when the decision was handed down...
it was a mind-numbingly stupid decision....
ask ole-piss fans what would happen if they destroyed the grove.....you'd get biatch-slapped for mentioning it....

Yeah they do it at UVA, the rest of the state makes fun of them for it.

So you're saying our school should have kept a plot of grass next to the stadium that was used for tailgating 6 days out of the year and not constructed the state of the art business school building that took its place?
Also, to compare said spot to the grove at OM is apples and oranges. I dislike OM myself but that spot was no grove my friend.
All that to say, I agree with your passion. I too was upset with the elimination of that spot but I understand why. Maybe part of my acceptance is the fact that our spot wasn't the one destroyed. We are behind the HPR building right at the end of the Eagle Walk.

Haha. Could not disagree with you more. And kind of makes me wonder how often you actually get back to a game and tailgate. Tailgating is an awesome experience at USM. You didn't even touch on the The District, the new green space where the WUSM stage is set up, or the several new tailgating spots located throughout campus.

RE: What is Your Schools Tailgate Like?
Rice doesn't have much of a tailgate atmosphere right now. There aren't any electrical outlets, shade trees, or port-a-toilets in the parking lot. There's no designated, tailgate-friendly area around the stadium at this point. Everyone seems to be really dispersed and in low number. I'm sure this will be addressed in the second phase of Rice Stadium renovations. Everyone I talk with on Parliament is ready for something to be done about tailgating at Rice Stadium, and the athletics department recognizes it as well. We'll get there. Tailgating is a major part of the college football experience. Very important.

Early in the season when it's really hot nobody dresses up to this degree. Maybe a polo.
But once fall starts to creep up completely and the temps are in the 70's, every game people dress up nice at WKU. It's got a preppy vibe to it big time.
I remember when I traveled to the Illinois game with a dozen of my guy and gal friends, the Illinois fans kept asking if we were running for president hah. Guess it's just a southern thing... And WKU isn't even that far south!
