AIF ever there was a need for a realignment siren, this would be the time. Two SEPARATE Oklahoma University insiders claim that Oklahoma is in talks with the SEC and Big Ten.

According to the latest revelation, the SEC is poised to invite Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.

Fasten your seatbelts.

One of them isn't even an Oklahoma guy, its a fake Colorado insider.

Yes, Oklahoma State is talking to the SEC right now. No, that doesn't mean that Oklahoma is going there too.

All this "smoke" is starting to feel a lot like all that nonsense a couple years ago about Florida State leaving the ACC.

Even if its true that they are talking, its all going to lead to nothing and nobody going nowhere.

It could be a control leak to see what Texas will do. Losing the top Big 12 schools of Missouri, Texas A&M and Nebraska hurt the conference. Losing Oklahoma and Kansas will kill Big 12 for sure.

I'm giggling at this thread....the same sh!t ACC fans went through for 18 months started by WV trailer trash and a loose cannon at FSU.

RE: Smoke getting really thick: 2 Oklahoma insiders claim OU in talks with SEC and Big Te
I'm normally reticent to post supposed insider's revealed information unless two things are present:

1) The insider is vetted by others; and
2) The information is verified by another insider OR there are facts and circumstances that lead one to believe in the veracity of the statements put forth.

Now, when it comes to "mainstream" journalists, the statements made by stakeholders (anonymous or named) there is an inherent level of credibility earned by the editing process of the publication. For example, the statement by Gordon Gee, the President of WVU wherein he openly advocated for a geographically compatible addition to the Big 12. Or the UConn reporter Scotty Gray reporting that his sources told himUconn to the Big Ten was imminent.

The Oklahoma insider information is gathered from the leading Oklahoma Sooners fan site. And the poster/insider is known, credible and of such reputation that there is an inherent predisposition to accept that what is proffered is true. Moreover, there is additional information revealed by others who are independent of the first source. That lends credence. Moreover, the information cannot, of course, be received in a vacuum. Here, the words of David Boren, which evidently has lit a firestorm under realignment, are given context by the inevitable backroom dealing of hitherto private ruminations.

Is this a big disinformation campaign orchestrated by Oklahoma? A struggle between WVU and Texas' proxies in TCU and KState (or other schools who fates are wholly dependent upon the largesse of Texas)? Those are largely unanswerable questions. But something is going on within the Big 12.

If Oklahoma leaves (and I don't pretend to understand all the implications of the grant of rights) what keeps Texas in the conference? Without Texas and Oklahoma, would a Big 12 leftover / Best of the Rest be able to attract BYU or Boise St?

At this point, I imagine the response from the Oklahoma crowd would be: "Who cares?"

This is an attempt by one of the alphas to marginalize the University of Texas' influence on Oklahoma's fate. It appears that Oklahoma has reached the breaking point with its southern neighbor.

Now if you are a Texas Tech, or Iowa State, or Kansas State fan, the answer to your question is the million dollar answer. Their future rests in the hands of others. Such helplessness has long been felt by UConn and BYU fans among others. That is a feeling that Oklahoma will not countenance.

So, a post that intentionally "stirs it up a bit" and admits that it is a hypothetical is the uncited source. Yay!

RE: Smoke getting really thick: 2 Oklahoma insiders claim OU in talks with SEC and Big Te
My guess would be

1) the sec would be wiling to take OU and Ok state to jump to 16

2) the big 10 would be willing to take OU and KU to jump to 16

3) the pac 12 would be willing to take Texas, Texas tech, OU and Ok state to jump to 16. I could also see the pac 12 take OU, Ok state, Ku and k state to jump to 16

4) I could see the sec be willing to jump to 18 with Texas, texas tech, OU, and Ok state, 3 pods of 6

5) I could see the pac 12 jump to 18 with texas, texas tech, OU, Ok state, Ku and K state, 3 pods of 6

I have no idea what preferences each school has for where it would go, nor what the GOR issues with the big 12 would be or how to dissolve the big 12. I've read it take 8 to dissolve but a school can't vote to dissolve if its leaving. It would seem ESPN would want texas and OU in either the sec, acc or pac 12 if it were to sell espn a stake in the pac 12. Having texas or OU in the big 10 wouldn't be good for ESPN.

No - it came from Landthieves.

Here's the take from the imminently reasonable SoonerLawyer29:

"Big 12 break-up rumors running rampant over at LandThieves. Some of it from posters who aren't crazy."

If true, things are about to get very interesting.

No way I see UT joining the SEC, and no way Texas gets rid of the LHN.. The more probable destination for the Horns is the independence route, IMHO.

Absolutely. Keep in mind that as long as the Big XII continues to exist in some form it will (presumably) have all of the benefits of being a P5 conference. So even if it's only for a few years, I think ANY G5 team would jump at a "Big 12 leftover" invitation. Better a short term job that pays $25 million/year for 10 years than a long-term job that pays $5 million/year... and who knows what happens in 10 years?

I can't imagine texas would stick around the big 12 if OU left. OF course, i'm sure OU would love for texas to stick around the big 12 if OU left since that would weaken texas and help OU with any lawsuit for leaving the big 12 since the big 12 would still have texas. Heck, maybe that his part of the OU plan. Let's put OU and KU in the big 10, texas led big 12 replaces them with colorado state and houston. Thus, the big 12 goes on and collects its paycheck with texas with its LHN still in the big 12.
