Is this the first public positive sign we've seen toward program rebuilding since June 1st?

I assume he's going to be either DL or maybe LB coach for us. Winning background as he was at Troy during their heyday

His Twitter account says "recruiter and UAB assistant defensive line coach."

RE: New football assistant?
How can we hire an assistant when we don't officially have a head coach under contract yet?

It's a strange new world, isn't it?

HCBC is actually under contract for the next 20 months. The controversy pertains to a contract extension...

And the inability to include him in public events. Like, you know, the reinstatement. Or the Blazer Boosters event.

The only person of note from the athletics department that I can recall from the reinstatement presser was the new AD. The mayor wasn't by Watts side, no other political figures were by his side unlike the first announcement. He was too toxic for the anyone to of political note to align themselves with the second time around although I think he surprised some people the first time around by the look on their faces during the press conference in December.

RE: New football assistant?
The fact is this is an extremely positive move. This guy was on his way to coach at South Dakota as an assistant and he did an about face and came back south. You don't do that unless the head coach is secure in a plan and can lay it out to you. The first title on his twitter account is "recruiter"

I think we have seven coaches now. Who knows. Maybe if we had a full time SID we would have more information on a daily basis?

Hell, give me an application and I'll work part time and probably do better. How hard is it to tweet, post, and write up a press release? Show me an application.

Inside LB coach?

I honestly don't know. He hasn't tweeted since that last tweet listed above.

RE: New football assistant?
Tommy Chandler is beginning his first season as a coach on the Independence Pirates football coaching staff. He serves as the defensive line coach.

Chandler joins the staff after spending 2014 at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) where he attended graduate school and served as a graduate assistant coach. At UAB, Chandler worked with inside linebackers. In 2014, Chandler helped coach junior linebacker Jake Ganus, who finished the season 2nd Team All-Conference USA with 70 tackles (T-23rd in C-USA), 6 Sacks (T-8th), and 16.5 Tackles for Loss (2nd). With the shuttering of UAB Football in December, Ganus transferred to the University of Georgia where he will compete for the Bulldogs in 2015.

Prior to UAB, Chandler spent 5 years coaching in Alabama high school football.
