RE: 2016 Men's Basketball Recruiting
Great to see a lot of talent at EMU's team camp today! The future is bright!

from TJ Kelly

Curious to which players are attending the camp?

Indeed, but remember we have two players in their last year of elig so we need a CENTER (!!) and probably a SF.

Recruiting should be pretty easy to figure out: Needs to be able to play up front...

I subscribe to prephoopsmichigan.com and TJ Kelley is one of their writers. I will be able to follow any information made available through that website...

And if we do get a senior transfer/5th year then we would have one more in 2016 and I would like us to get a shooting guard like Justin Turner and maybe redshirt them during Toney Lee senior years.

RE: 2016 Men's Basketball Recruiting
One thing which kind of baffles me for 2015 and 2016 is: Can a 6' 9" PF play C for us?

What I mean? A player like Madray can play all over offensively as a PF or C. Can he play C defensively in the zone? Ditto for Wofford-Humphrey. Can he play defensive center in the zone?

Are we locked into the notion that the center has to be 6' 10" or 11" and 250+ to matchup with a similar sized center? Is that not true in man-to-man but NOT in the zone.

Offensively could Madray camp out on the old high post and shoot 15 footers all day?

I'm really starting to wonder if we really need a starting true center with Madray (2016-17)? Will Murphy & Company determine that early in those pre-season team building drills during July - September that Madray can fit perfectly in Murphy's scheme?

We might have the answer to this question in the next 3 or 4 weeks. Fascinated if Murphy will groom Madray as a center in his scheme...

Top team was Ann Arbor Pioneer which looks loaded with 2017 prospects, Southfield Christian and Belleville.

RE: 2016 Men's Basketball Recruiting
A couple of items N Wallace ended up at Division II Barry in Florida.

6'9" 260 Juwan Savage (Bogan/JuCo) on visit to Muskegon CC today. Has 1 year JuCo left.

Might be interesting if Savage transfers to a instate Juco and keep your eye on him. From Bogan high school Chicago area.

Interesting on Wallace. He could have gone JUCO or take the route he did, D-II.

If he has D-I size, I would have thought JUCO would have been the way to go...

One has to be careful in interpreting these 'headlines'.

It is one thing to say a TEAM looks good at a team camp and another to ask: "Are there MAC prospects on that team?"

How many MAC prospects will there be at those three schools?

That said, the top players might have been Neely (Oakland verbal) whom I've seen play Summer AAU ball (webcast) and Josh Long (2017) both from Detroit Western. (Nice to see a McDowell team at the Convo).

And, unless things change, EMU will have two scholarships and looking for a center or small forward or even two centers.

Yes I agree one should read the articles carefully as the article states most of the Ann Arbor Pioneer kids are in the 2017 class where EMU will have more than 2 scholarships.

A follow up:

Ann Arbor Pioneer continues to impress w/trio of 2017s: @deric_murray @Cedric_Benton05 @JordanCurrie6 @AAPioneerHoops

Agree, EMU is 'looking ahead' a lot for 2017, and not too much for 2016.

If EMU signs Jaksic in November as a JUCO transfer (lock him up) then we have one scholarship for another center or maybe a SF to back up Bond.

2016 recruiting could be 'boring' if Murphy can get an early commit for a center (e.g., Jaksic).

Long from Detroit Western is a 2017 forward and probably a good one.

See alot of activity from alot of MAC and non MAC schools offering 2017 prospects. Where's Murphy and his staff on offering players?

RE: 2016 Men's Basketball Recruiting
A bit more on Pioneer's 2017 prospects circa Steve Bell:

Deric Murray 6-2 Jr Ann Arbor Pioneer: The Pioneers had three 2017 prospects see significant time last season, and two of them found their way to Allendale, Murray and 6-5 Jordan Currie. Murray had the highest vertical leap at camp — 38 inches — and it wasn’t just for show, as he finished well in games. He’s a left-handed combo guard who competed in drills and was in attack mode once the game opened up. Needs to balance his attack going to the right and get an up-and-down jumpshot with a higher release point.

BTW, it appears that a lot of teams were at the EMU TEAM camp.

I believe Detroit Western, Mumford, A2 Pioneer, Canton, Lansing Everett, Hazel Park, Ypsi Arbor Prep, etc.

I dug those school names out of various reports of teams at EMU this month... Don't know the actual count of schools attending.

RE: 2016 Men's Basketball Recruiting
I've already mentioned Darryl Bingham for 2016 from Mott. Here's a JUCO with alot of Michigan players:

http://bartonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2014-15/roster

Dre Dentmond a 6'7 player from Lansing Eastern transferred from Vincennes to Barton Community after one semester at Vincennes. He will be a sophomore after this upcoming season. He may be under the radar.

It appears that after playing one year at Owens CC that Darren Groves has transferred to Vincennes. Groves is 6'8 and averaged 10 point as a frosh for Owens.

I read all of these posts and blogs and I still can't find a 2016 center for EMU in Michigan...

And to repeat a point I've suggested before: Until the players getting on campus next week, I doubt Murphy knows what he has at center:

Can Madray be a 'stretch 5'? Can Lamar Wofford-Humphrey play some center?

(Nobles has been on campus for a year so he shouldn't be an unknown quantity).

RE: 2016 Men's Basketball Recruiting
Don't forget we offered Kyle Hayes who is 6'8, have not seen alot of scouting reports on him so far this summer. I also post these reports for 2017 when we have maybe 4-6 scholies so some of you can see whose stock is rising and falling.

This is why I post some of the JUCO movements. We can talk about transfers at the Div I level but there is just as much activity in the JUCO ranks guys moving up from Div II JUCO to Div I JUCO or looking for more playing time or being closer to home.

While I'm interested in 2016 class I am even more curious as to what the roster will look like next year and why the class hasn't been announced.

by the way just by reference here is all the guys U of D has offered already for 2017. I've only seen one 2017 offer reported for EMU so far.

RE: 2016 Men's Basketball Recruiting
I agree that 2016 should be absolutely boring for EMU. 2017 is where it will be.

If Jaksic is interested in EMU he would be 50% of our recruiting class and would take Samuels slot.

Do we need to replace Nazione or do we have enough PFs like Madray, Wofford-Humpreys, and Nobles?

Good question, I think EMU takes the best athlete available and spreads the guards I mean if you have a chance to sign Justin Turner you sign them. I could definitely see us going for a power forward.
