Porn and video game addiction leading to 'masculinity crisis'
Quote:A leading psychologist has warned that young men are facing a crisis of masculinity due to excessive use of video games and pornography.

Psychologist and professor emeritus at Stanford University Phillip Zimbardo has made the warnings, which form a major part of his latest book, Man (Dis)Connected.

In an interview on the BBC World Service's Weekend programme, Zimbardo spoke about the results of his study, an in-depth look into the lives of 20,000 young men and their relationships with video games and pornography.

He said: "Our focus is on young men who play video games to excess, and do it in social isolation - they are alone in their room."

"Now, with freely available pornography, which is unique in history, they are combining playing video games, and as a break, watching on average, two hours of pornography a week."

Zimbardo says there is a "crisis" amongst young men, a high number of whom are experiencing a "new form of addiction" to excessive use of pornography and video games.

RE: Porn and video game addiction leading to 'masculinity crisis'
So many kids these days are not taught how to be men. They might be smart and moral around a good mother (which is hard to find sometimes), but they aren't always men.

Boys can't be boys anymore. This causes a lot of them to disconnect and take on addictive behaviors (usually it's not even drugs, folks). Allow boys to be boys and stop attacking masculinity - then you'll see some healthy lifestyle changes take place.

You can add to this the way in which we treat young boys in general, particularly in education.

I'd put that in the same category of uh-oh.

This what happened to the Japanese. Between the excessive drug, alcohol, video game and porn use, this country will be **** in 30 years.

exactly. Boys aren't allowed to go play outside or ride their bikes back through woods. God forbid they play "cops and robbers" when they are in elementary school, because they will get suspended. I don't think porn and video games is the cause, but more or less the side affect.

It blows my mind how many "grown men" want to spend their spare time playing video games. I haven't played one at all in years.
