To be fair, not close to the resources. He's cheap which is probably the important part

Question RE: 2 out runs
I was at the game and one of our problems was that we did not lay down a good bunt the entire game. I also questioned the steal call that came back to bite us in the rear end.

RE: 2 out runs
Don't get my started on Coach Rock. He has proven over 7 plus years that he can't recruit consistently at a high level and cannot not made the Regional tournament. Most all of the Memphis area high skilled level kids go to $EC schools. I have stated before it takes 37 minimum wins to potentially gain an at large bid.

I believe that the Administration is satisfied with a complacent baseball program.

basketball too

based on the fact that the coach still has a job after missing the NCAA and NIT tournaments in year 6.

So there are actually people on this board that think Rock should go but Pastner deserves another year?

Ding ding ding!!! And it's gonna be that way in all the non revenue sports. I heard this past weekend that our new men's golf coach is just waiting for the Tulsa coach to retire so he can leave for there. It is what it is.

Great assessment. But I like a risk here and there. He played the odds but lost.

I like the aggressive play. I was excited to finally see the Tigers play baseball on TV. could have done a better job of getting some bunts down. But hey, this is new territory for us in this era (no pun intended). Needed the chrome tiger stripe M batting helmets.

RE: 2 out runs
Its one thing to be aggressive, its another to be stupid. That game was turning in our favor, tubbs had just tripled and basically told the USF bench that here we come and then w the best RBI guy in the league rock tries to swipe a bag, gets hosed and then tubbs flies out (which would've scored tubbs to tie the game) instead we don't even tie the game, momentum completely flips back to USF and then they proceed to roll a 3 spot.. GAME OVER. Those conference tourneys are all about execution and momentum. And the attempt to get the bunt down in that same inning was horrible, he gets hit on the first pitch and doesn't pull back, second pitch he tries to bunt and it would've hit him, third pitch was a cement mixer slider that never moved and he took it right down the shoot for strike 3.

What coach will you hire? What can he say to recruits to keep them at Memphis vs SEC schools that Rock does not say? Do you not think the larger stadiums, bigger crowds and playing on the SEC network matter? Despite all such disadvantages, Rock continues to hold his own in SEC games (3-2 this year). It should also be remembered that the AAC is a damned tough baseball conference - no shame in losing to these teams. If you ask me, Rock continues to OVERACHIEVE and UofM is extremely lucky to have him. Of course, what do I know - I just go to the games (something we need more of from our fan base).

Are people actually trying to equate baseball success of late with basketball? Or are they looking at one singular season.

I do not think if the baseball team made four consecutive NCAA tourneys, winning some games, that it would all be thrown out after an 18-14 start. Even if many felt those teams were capable of winning an extra game or two.

I agree and as long as he's low cost, you keep him around unless some scandal comes up.

You could hire Tony La Russa to coach the team and the top talent in Memphis will still go to SEC schools. Until you can erect a recruiting fence and limit the SEC exposure in Memphis. Then you will always have most of the top talent in town going to SEC schools.

RE: 2 out runs
So why has Louisville been to the CWS 3 times w a coach who we passed on... Kentucky is a terrible state for baseball talent and they're also still in the middle of the SEC??? How many more times can the excuse of were in SEC country work? I mean hell has anyone forgotten that Matt Cain signed w Memphis, so getting talent maybe isn't the issue, how about the fact that Rock lost out on probably 2 of the best 3 high school players 2 years ago to Austin Peay.. And they play in the worst league in the country
