This article kind of cuts both ways. On one hand, there clearly isn't much UAB representation. On the other hand, we're doing great, making a massive impact on Alabama and Birmingham, and have grown tremendously in our one-half century of existence. For whatever reasons, that growth occurred under the BOT. Those numbers make it harder to argue that the BOT is holding us back--at least in non-athletic areas.

HOW DOES THAT BLUE FONT THING WORK AGAIN?

I never noticed the Tuscaloosa congressional district gets 3 members. We should introduce another bill to remove that member. It's a start.

UAB has zero representation on the board. Bryant Bank has substantial representation on the board.

It should be noted that Urqurhart, while technically a UAB graduate, went to school in Tuscaloosa for 3 years and only transferred to UAB for her senior year because her boyfriend was starting Medical School...real loyal representative we have there.

Then our other rep is a middle school track coach whose husband is an employee of Bryant Bank. I'd say our representation is zero.

UAB and UA are in the same congressional district.

If the system BOT is to get credit for everything good that happened at UAB since 1969, it also gets the blame for every hinderance and barrier that UAB has had to overcome along the way as well. Every UAB academic program that was opposed by Tuscaloosa centric forces is on their head - and there were many. Lucy Rucker, who became principal of Wilson ES, had to lose a day's pay to drive to Tuscaloosa to meet the committee for her Master's Degree in Administration because they were still in control of that program.

The Tuscalooosa campus has taken the same approach to releasing programs to UAB as the NRA does about guns - "You will have to pry it out of my cold dead hands". Most programs moved to UAB were neither graciously nor generously given up by Bama without some resistance.

Why not ask your representatives on the Board about their support of UAB, financially and by attendance at athletic events versus that their support of UAT financially and at athletic events.

"Your representatives"? UAB has zero representation on the Bryant Bank UA BOT. ZERO!

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'm a USA grad so I used the term "your representatives".

Fiscally there is no reason for the UA board to undercut the Health System and related research. They need that money to fund the UAT campus. The "growth" question we are concerned about are not related to the Health System (although I'm hearing things that say we should be concerned about the future of the Health System). What we have to look at is how pro-undergraduate UAB Presidents have been treated.

The health system is afraid of the changing manner of medical reimbursement. No one knows the true impact that the rules of Obama Care will have on health institutions. Especially ones such as UAB that take care of a very sick and high risk population. The potential for being punished because they came back to the hospital "too soon" has huge ramifications.

You are dead right. The Trustees love to say that UA, UAH, and UAB are all part of the same family, and of course they love all their children equally. I'm quite certain that if their actual financial contributions, both to athletics and academics, were pulled up they would tell a completely different story.

I know that the Trustees were all sent UAB's form to donate to bringing back football. I doubt most sincerely that any of them gave a dime.

I certainly hope we find out the answer to that question.
