I think that ECU only looks like a B12 school with respect to football. In every other respect, athletically speaking, it falls short. For all those "other respects", ECU's location would get old fast for their B12 mates. If ECU were to agree to be a football only add, would somebody like Cincy agree to do the same for balance? Can a school be a football only add under current NCAA conference realignment rules? Would the B12 be OK with not being balanced?

See Navy and the American Conference. Football only.

I just don't see this happening (much as I'd like to, i need the AAC to open up spots for Northern Illinois) but I've been wrong before...

RE: CIncy and ECU to Big 12 within 1 month?
I highly doubt the XII adds someone at a reduced share. That's not the point of a conference. It's the same reason why the BE would never accept ECU's "zero revenue" proposal. It reeks of desperation. Conferences add teams to boost revenues and add peer institutions which can benefit the conference, period. Adding someone just to add more members and create a lesser class within the conference is the worst reason in the world to add members. There's no way this hogwash is valid.

and you missed another post by the OP in that thread:

Quote:I was also told that look for in the future Uconn UMass an UCF USF to be the final 4 teams ever added to the B12.

So not only is the guys saying the XII goes to 12, but they'll go to 16 with a northeastern island and a florida island. Yeah, right.

While I don't believe the rumor...CommuterBob...aren't 9 teams in the Big 12 playing for a reduced share now? Also, Rutgizz and Maryland have reduced shares the next 6 years or so.

There's playing for a reduced share in perpetuity and then there's the standard graduated scale for new members. If you're trying to include the LHN into the discussion, then yes, 9 members get less than Texas, but I would argue that's due to their success in negotiating their Tier 3 rights. But if your talking only conference-shared revenue, then only TCU and WVU are getting a reduced share, but they should be full-share members by 2016-17.

Rutgers and Maryland are also on a graduated plan, but Maryland got an extra $30M from the B1G as part of their migration. And keep in mind that they each start at 50% shares, not no shares or minimal shares.

We don't fall short in baseball, women's basketball, or a host of Olympic sports. You're mainly referring to men's basketball.

(05-15-2015 11:59 AM)Eichorst Wrote:  While I believe there's not one shred of fact in this post, I believe Big XII expansion is certainly possible with a "pay to play" strategy. Just like buying into a poker game, many companies require putting some skin in the game in order to get a seat at the table. In the case of Big XII expansion, if the right candidates offered up provisional entry to the league with low or even zero TV payouts, the Big XII might be inclined to expand.

Some folks here had somewhat jokingly suggested Arkansas St and Missouri St to the Big XII under the same premise. Some of these schools are so eager to move up, they'll agree to almost any deal.

Now, even paying the Big XII upfront and/or agreeing to low or zero TV revenue still doesn't mean the Big XII would expand. The Big XII doesn't have a TV network, so they have different motivations for expansion than the SEC, Pac-12, and B1G. Big XII expansion would mean one of a few things: a TV network is planned for the next contract lifecycle, the league's TV deal sweetens substantially with Cincy and ECU as junior members, and/or deregulation of the CCGs is not going to happen and the Big XII needs 12 teams to add on the lucrative championship game.

I've never heard that regarding AState but I am on record having tendered Texas an invite to join the Sun Belt with Texas being able to keep 100% of their TV money, host all championship events and pick two conference games per year to move to an alternate site such as Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio in exchange for paying the "home" team $1.5 million.

Just having two Texas football games and 8 basketball games in inventory would be a fine upgrade.

Nah, the way to start one of these threads is to post your "what do you think about this idea" on one message board, then go on several other message boards and link to your first message board post as a source to support your "rumor". 07-coffee3

lol... Nailed it. 04-cheers

What a high quality northeastern island that would be...combined the two teams didn't reach the 6 wins required to qualify for a bowl, with one of the wins coming against an FCS team at that.

I'm sure most of you are Buckeye fans but Cincy an ECU to B12
05/06/2015

Just heard from a good friend an someone who works in WVU atheletic office. That we can expect Cincy an ECU to be added to the Big 12 within the next month. Both schools taking a huge revenue cut to play with the big boys. The other 10 teams are to remain at 30 million a piece. Finally we get some regional opponents. THANK GOD Hail WV!

Lets Go Mountaineers!

If you look back at his tweets over the last 3-4 years, he's probably mentioned this combination of schools at some point. Therefore, he called it! He knew before anyone. At least, that's how he'd spin it.

Not any chance. Cleveland Brown fans are delusional due to lack of victories the way those lost in the desert go mad for lack of water.

link, sure the Big 12 has repeatedly said they are not expanding, but when has it specifically mentioned Cincinnati as a nonstarter?
