Latest rumor regarding the B1G
This is the latest rumor I have heard regarding the B1G and possible future expansion. The source is rock solid, so be assured that this is the straight scoop.

The Chancellors and Presidents of the B1G met at a secret meeting to discuss options moving forward along with Delaney and the other B1G conf staff. Delaney made an interesting suggestion to have a vote among the presidents to cede their power and give it to a "conference emperor" on a temporary basis in order to steer the ship for expansion. They voted on it and it is done. Basically, 12 out of the 14 university presidents gave Delaney temporary power to make ALL decisions for the conference that would normally require the votes of a majority of the presidents. This means that Delaney has full authority to expand with who he wants whenever he wants. That means, for example, if the Delaney wants to expand the B1G by one and invite Memphis to join, Delaney has full power to invite them and there is nothing the university presidents within the B1G can do to stop it.

Delaney is now a conference realignment god - literally by proxy.

You're welcome.

It was a "for example" point to flesh out the narrative. I'm not prepared to divulge who the real target(s) is (are).

As you can see, ceding authority to Delaney is not liked by a few. All I can say is sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

You're welcome.

If I was Delaney, I would have held out for the title "Czar".

RE: Latest rumor regarding the B1G
Gordon Gee in his infamous speech that led to his dismissal from Ohio State perfectly captured the sentiment of the largest brands in each conference.

To paraphrase a point he made about Delaney (since I can't remember and not taking the time to look it up):

" I remember bringing him on board, I helped bring him here, he's a good man, he just needs to keep his hand out of OUR pocket!"

Just my opinion, but I believe one possible outcome in all this is that the moment Notre Dame makes the CFP (and particularly if they win the NC) Texas might choose to follow their model. They are in a good position to do so. If that were to happen, other schools might look to do the same, cough,cough......Ohio State.

Only team from the ACC that could possibly pull that off is FSU.

If the GoR's are defeated earlier than term I don't think it will be Delaney's doing. Most likely a National brand like Texas or Ohio State, or Alabama. You know, the team's that carry a conference money wise.

miko,

This is your best rumor yet. Delaney becoming a czar might be the only way to get any further expansion done.

To get Maryland and Rutgers to join Delaney had to push the panic button of Penn State's potential expulsion by the NCAA. That fear has largely subsided.

Obviously the Big Ten is going after the SEC since there is no GOR to worry about. Plus expand the footprint and all that stuff.

My sources tell me you have this wrong. They say the secret meeting gave Delaney authority to execute a hostile takeover of the entire SEC, network and all, to be operated as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Big Ten.

Put a laurel on that pate and he does resemble Nero. But god? Maybe enlightened teacher. I can see him as a reclining Buddha, a little vulnerable, but hard to move while being over confident in security.

How far is Nashville from the closest B1G institution?

Only 4 hours from Bloomington.
5.5 hours from Champaign, Columbus, and West Lafayette.
It's about half way between Lincoln and College Park (about 10.5-11 hours either way).

Just saying.

RE: Latest rumor regarding the B1G
I'm thinking the main result of this will occur along a different line of expansion: single-sport members. The B1G could take outstanding programs at smaller schools that would kill to have B1G branding, while strengthening the conference in sports where they aren't as competitive or don't have participation from all conference members.

As an example, last year, the B1G added their first ever affiliate member, Johns Hopkins, in Lacrosse. I could see them making similar additions for Hockey or other sports.

Yeesh, it's MTSU...you so sloppily exposed it. WKU for the bridge. The MAC couldn't get it done, but the B1G will.

I've heard that the University Presidents were so worried about the Academic side of the Conference after this last expansion that, they've decided to annex the Ivy league. Don't quote me, it's just a rumor. 03-shhhh
