Strasburg looked fine too, although he walked two.

The Mets lineup has the potential to be pretty bad. If Wright doesn't rebound it'll mostly be Duda and a bunch of league average guys. Nobody can predict with certainty what D'arnaud will do, will lagares continue to improve or has he reached his ceiling, will Granderson bounce back at all, will Cuddyer stay healthy and deliver some right handed power? With that pitching staff the Mets would be wise to go after Heyward and Desmond

How did Uggla look 1st AB? Saw he got a single. Had a real laser last night for a double. 2-8 1st 8 ab....

Looked good. Turned on a fastball low and in and grounded it down the 3B line. Wright made a diving stop but Uggla beat the throw, which was quite terrible

As I'm sure you've read, his velocity has declined and he's trying to pitch with less of a fastball. I'd have very little faith in him. If the giants rotation is a glaring question mark, the Marlins rotation has to be considered one as well.

Yeah Latos is a big ? for sure. But even w/o him- having Alvarez/Cosart/Haren/Koehler isn't awful. Esp when Fernandez gets back...

Cool. 1 thing you kind of wonder if he continues to have a good start if when Rendon gets back the Nats look to move Desmond early- move Escobar from 3rd to short and put Rendon back at 3rd.

What was huge about the Uggla hit was him getting on base meant Harvey had to throw 7 extra pitches. Up to 40 in 2 innings. 90 I think is the max today.

Strasburg hangs a breaking ball to Granderson who singles and then Wright hits a tailor made DP ball to Desmond who boots it. Horrible play. After hitting Duda, Cuddyer breaks his bat and hits a soft liner over Uggla to drive in Granderson

and then Murphy hits a ball that bounces straight up, gloved by Zimmerman but he had nowhere to go with it, everyone was safe. Then after an infield pop up, D'arnaud blooped one off the end of the bat for a hit. Strasburg wasn't exactly crushed this inning, but this is an excellent example of why FIP and xFIP are such valuable statistics. A lot of really weak contact plus a botched DP grounder. Sure he hasn't exactly fooled anyone, but he hasn't had much luck

The thing though is he did have a HBP in there as well. Plus the 2 walks in the 1st. Just looking at FIP it would be 5/3+ constant. I think that constant yesterday was 2.81. So right now ERA is 3.00. FIP is 4.48.

what is 5/3 + constant?

Yeah he hit a guy and hung a breaking ball, but all Desmond had to do was field it cleanly and he'd have been out of it. And you could say he needs to pitch through the error, but he then proceeded to give up a soft liner, a bloop and a ball bounced so high and so slowly that nobody could get an out.

The formula is 13*HR+ 3*(bb+hbp)-2*k/ip + constant(which gets it to the league era). A guy with 0 hr,bb,hbp has just the constant. So right now it was 3*3 - 2*2 all divided by 3 + the constant.

Reds 3-0, after a sweep of the Pirates. And this one belongs to the Reds.

really nice win for the Giants. A combination of Hudson, Machi, Affeldt, Lopez, Kontos and Casilla held the Padres scoreless through 12 innings. A horrible miscommunication between Barmes and Upton led to the only run of the game. Another reason this win is big is because the wonderful Lincecum "pitches" tomorrow. Crawford's defense was straight ridic. Started one absolutely crucial and beautiful DP

Only bad thing about today is that it went 12- and so the pen is shot in front of a Lincecum start.

an interesting read about him from Peter Gammons:

Nah not really. Affeldt only threw 3 pitches, casilla had a stress free inning, Lopez only pitched to one batter and petit didn't pitch, although I'm sure he will tonight. And to be fair their pen pitched a lot and morrow isn't exactly an innings eater

Casilla will be interesting to see if he can go today- had 16 pitches on Wed and 10 last night.
Kontos almost surely can't go tonight- had 23 last night and 25 on Tue.
Machi maybe can go a bit tonight- had 13 last night and 8 on Wed.

huge that Petit is available. Got lucky the game didn't go much longer or that maybe wouldn't have been the case.

For Morrow it'll be interesting to see how he does in the NL.

I hope Hudson has a great final season. He's been a class guy.

We forgot one thing about Lincecum. He's facing the Padres. Shockingly he's actually given up a hit against them(albeit an infield hit)!
