I know.

RE: AD Says Liberty Good Expansion Candidate
You mean to tell me that there are now over 300 post in this thread and that it all started with some AD at some school not even in the Sun Belt stating that the Sun Belt should add liberty.
It really is the football off season.
But just thing how many posts there would be in a thread that was started from what some big shot AD at some big shot school made the same statement.

Ok then, I am all for CUSA adding Liberty to replace UAB so that they can get back to 14 football members.

I'm all for that too.
As I've said before, it's just a matter of time.... Just keep improving athletics and a conference will see the need to add LU sooner than later. Make it a no brainer on the field and court.

I don't see LU as being a good fit in the SBC and as long as USA is a member I hope they won't be. I'm sure that Liberty is a nice school, but don't see them getting in.

RE: AD Says Liberty Good Expansion Candidate
Where is Liberty even located? It sounds petty, but I'm not big on adding a school to the conference when most people won't even know where they are located, at least from a State level. Troy has at least been around long enough, and has been successful enough to build some name recognition for themselves, Same with App, but Liberty just doesn't have that. I would hate to have to always answer "Liberty? Who's that? Where are they?" every time someone asks who is in the conference.

RE: AD Says Liberty Good Expansion Candidate
There are many valid arguments about why Liberty should not be in the Sun Belt. But name recognition is not on that list. If anything, it is quite the opposite.

It's in lynchburg, Virginia. Sometimes mistaken for home of Jack Daniels.

I have to believe you are in a small minority in the south on that. A case could be made that if someone doesn't know where LU is, they may not know where JMU is either.

I grew up less than 2 hours from Liberty. Without looking it up, I couldn't have told you where Liberty, George Mason, ODU, or James Madison were located other than that they were in Virginia somewhere between the ocean and the mountains.

It's located halfway between two other small market FBS teams. About 60 miles from UVA (Charlottesville VA) and 90 miles from Virginia Tech (Blacksburg VA) both average 50,000 plus per game. The other Virginia FBS team, ODU has sold out every home game since they started. Liberty is drawing between 18,000 to 20,000 playing Big South teams. Bring in some FBS competition and you are looking at 30,000 right away. Virginians love their football.

a small minority? doubt it. I just polled my office.... 1 person guessed "somewhere in Kentucky or Virginia or something? Do they have football?"
Not a knock at what you guys have done football wise, but you guys have very little name recognition when it comes to football, or any sport for that matter.

That could be said about any of us at this level. We might be known in our area but the typical fan has very little knowledge of most of us.

true. but when people at least hear the name of "Georgia southern" "app state" "Arkansas state", hearing those names brings up some reactions from people. "oh yeah, you guys have a good football team" etc. That's better than "Liberty? Who's that? Where are they?"

Waiting for our invitation to join the USC (United Soviet Conference). Can't wait to say "Dos Vadanya" to this dump of a conference and join some real comrades.
