Houston will being getting a invite to join the PAC 12 or Big 12 in 2 years time, that's what the new coach beliefs, and our Chancellor believes. Is this your rumor? Not much of one if it is.

Rumor mill is is they are looking hard at New Mexico, SMU unfortunately is a scarlet lady, due to do the past history of the death penalty (as far as PAC is concerned), Tech would not be a bad intrastate mate in the PAC, if all comes to past. Texas is not leaving the B12 for the PAC, seriously I doubt Tech will to, even though there is a rumor that Tech was still trying go through the bad channels with OU, OKSt once Texas decided, no. Rumor, Texas found out about Ken Hance attempts to circumvent them and still get into the PAC, once Texas found out they put the kabosh on it.
That's exactly what happened. I'm surprised you know that. Larry Scott was ready to take OU/TTU/OSU and either Mizzou or Kansas because Texas' DeLoss Dodds wouldn't compromise on the LHN. Then Dodds found out that 3 of the 4 Texoma schools were ready to join the PAC without UT and he panicked. At that point, it was Texas and ESPN that put the kibosh on the move to guarantee content for the LHN. Basically, ESPN told Scott the PAC payout would not be increased to cover new PAC members unless Texas was included in the expansion. And Dodds piled on telling Scott that UT lobbyists would do everything in their power to get the Texas legislature to block Tech from moving without UT and, unfortunately, that was not an idle threat. And to think, we used to hate the Aggies more. Now A&M is all but irrelevant to Tech fans and UT still doesn't spark our anger despite Dodds' double dealing.

I could find this believable
UH needs and wants to expand their profile outside of "city university" or "random other university in Texas" and part of doing that is attracting students from other states
Lacrosse in an eastern-centric conference is a way to attract students that probably have good high school metrics and that might have a friend or two that looks into going to UH as well to go to school with friends
it is also a sport that UT and other Big 12 members and A&M and SEC members are not really involved with for the most part outside of club sports and I believe SMU is looking at starting a program as well because they definitely like to recruit students from the east coast
