RE: Freeman - Best Single Game Performance in ODU History?
Been following ODU since 1990. In my opinion that was the greatest single shot by an ODU player since I've been following, so much on the line with a national TV audience and a sold out Ted. I would also say it was one of the Top 5 performances by a player in ODU history especially when you factor in the injury. Definately think Freeman is staking his claim to belonging on the list of Monarch greats!
Not really scared by any of the teams in NYC, feel we have a great chance to win it all!

Yeah, when you factor in crowd, exposure, how the game played out, never seen a bigger shot.

Two days before the kid could hardly walk, he was hobbling down the court. It looked over for Freeman. Then yesterday, he comes out and dominates right from the start. How is that even possible? Without a doubt, one of the greatest all time Monarch performances. EVER!

Great game by Trey, but Petey's 35 points against Villanova in the first round of the 95 NCAAT was the best ODU performance.
Allow me to frame the picture for you. Petey got fouled in the corner on a three point attempt when we were down three with just seconds to go in the game. He went to the line and hit all three foul shots. Then at the end of the third overtime, he blocked a shot (nearly pinned it on the backboard) and hustled down the court to receive a pass from Dunlap for a breakaway layup and an "and 1" to seal the victory. To block a shot at the basket and be the lead guy on a fast break is almost impossible. This was on St. Patrick's Day, a Friday night, and 98% of the country were receiving the end of the game since the other games already ended and the second games of the night had not started yet.

In the post game interview Freeman credited his mom with bringing his speedy recovery. Apparently she applied some kind of old-school remedy to his ankle.
I need a "Momma Freeman's Ankle Salve" T-shirt asap!

I agree with these comments and I'll add that not only did Petey hit those FTs - he did so with amazing poise - he was a force on defense going against Kerry Kittles.
Great, great performance by Trey last night and the best I've seen since Petey in '95.

You know, after watching that last play several times, the best part of the play might not have been the shot itself, but the footwork to stay in bounds going around the defender on the other side of halfcourt. It even looked like he may have been bumped.

That's right EverRespect. That guy bumped Freeman, left him all of three inches of sideline room and STILL Freeman gets around him for the dagger three. One of the best plays you will ever see!

The MSU fans are spouting off on their message board about how Trey was clearly out of bounds and that he travelled!

And I was stuck in the damn HRBT going to Reserve Duty during the final OT! I almost fouled myself when I lost the radio signal.

I was just reading that. traveled and stepped out of bounds right in front of the ref, so I doubt it. one of them did say he didn't see him travel. the announcer did say that he traveled.

I'd be surprised if there was even 3 inches, but I was on the other side in 101. When I saw it and in the replays, it looked like he may have even been out of bounds or just inside the edge, but the ref was right there so obviously he stayed in. Has anyone seen a replay that shows how close that was?

I re-watched the play a bunch of times. It looks to me like he did one of those hesitation steps for a half-count while dribbling. The other guy was pushing him out of bounds and Trey was resisting, which put a hitch in his stride. I definitely don't think he traveled.

I can't see where he would have traveled. Maybe he stepped out, but there is no video footage showing him stepping out and the ref was right there. I didn't see Murray State, who would have had a great angel to see, claim he stepped out.

One or 2 of their fans are, not the MSU fans. The other 98 are tipping their hat and very respectful. Would love a series with them more often.

yea i was there an amazing performance and the best thing is 20 years later we are still talking about Petey and that Villanova is still feeling the effects of that loss......20 years from now we will be talking about the shot Trey hit to send the monarchs to MSG....there will be many more in between like Billy Mann's shot heard around the world was awesome too and that was 34 years ago
