Watts told Haase to work on a "Long-term plan" for basketball. He's killing basketball next.

Haase looks like a POW in this video.
And, Watts may be drunk.

Congrats to Haase. Watts and his BoT buddies still must go.

This was well deserved by Coach Haase and his staff! Great news for UAB.

So the contract is for a salary of 1 mil a year or is that with incentives and things tied in? What's his base salary.
Still this is a shocking amount to offer him IMO. We only offered Anderson in the neighborhood of 600-650 when he left for Mizzou, correct?
And all this "committed spending" for upgrades, travel, etc., it seems like a thinly veiled disguise to placate angry fans. While I'm happy about all this, it also makes me nervous that they are digging in and football will not come back no matter what...

I am happy for Coach Hass and to secure his continued presence at UAB. I hope to heck the new contract contains a sizable buy out clause.
Nope Haas does not look comfortable in that picture, probably because if I were him, I wouldn't want Watts commenting on my integrity.
I hope that this was one of Watts' last official acts as UAB's President.

Please get this contract signed, sealed, and delivered formally ASAP so when Watts gets his azz booted the next administration can't nix the contract. I really hope it has a big buy out as well.. This is a very strong commitment to Haase though. Bigger than anything we did for Anderson or Davis.

He made $625k this year including the incentives he earned by winning C*USA and making it to the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.
Alabama is about to spend $3-4 million, probably for a coach of Haase's caliber, so yeah, it's time for UAB to step up into seven digits.

UAB announces new long-term contract for Men’s Basketball Coach Jerod Haase
Well deserved for Haase.
Definitely have to know this is political from the Watts and BOT camp. Also I'm sure they would love for it to create a division in the fan base.
I will remind folks that we are all Blazers. Whether you became a UAB fan for one sport or another it doesn't matter. There's no reason we can't be successful in BOTH football and basketball.
I'm glad for Haase and glad for basketball but this in NO way minimizes my anger or my desire to bring football back.

Quote: “Our investments in the program to reach and sustain excellence and win championships, along with the continued support of donors, will make these priorities a reality and bolster all of our athletic programs.” Watts said.
"Stop donating and we'll cut more." or maybe I'm just conditioned to be paranoid.

No doubt this is excellent news for the basketball program. This is the level of commitment that it'll take to have a program like Wichita St. If the contract is for $1M, I would think we're overpaying for Haase. I don't doubt he could command that salary in the future (and I'm happy to see we're willing to pay a salary at that level), but I think we're overdoing it at this point.
I agree though that committing to spending this level of money means the administration has no intention of bringing back football. Now even if football is shown to be viable they can say "Yeah that's great, but we've already committed all of resources to basketball. We can't re-start football without breaking the promises we made to the basketball program."

Well said. No reason for the fan base to attack each other as this is what the admin/BOT wants. We can be successful in football and basketball at the same time. To strive for anything less would defy Gene Bartow and Joseph Volker's vision.

This is a needed raise for a Championship Coach. However, I see this as more of a self-serving tactic for Watts, from PR, to say "See? We saved money from football and we have have a Championship caliber basketball coach."
Even though the timing is wrong and the justification is a lie, this is what they will attempt to do. Always filter his actions through a PR lens. There is always a self-preservation motive with Watts. It parallels a typical white collar criminal strategy.

I don't see how Haase can turn it down though. That would be rather stupid.
He is being used though.

Does anyone know where one million ranks in CUSA. In today's market, if Haase becomes a hot target of P5 schools, $1 million is still low that a lot of P5 schools will top.
But Watts is spending money right now like a cheating husband trying to convince his wife he still loves her before she kicks him out of the house.
