How much are you providing to get rid of Pastner. The Ambassadors that I know (including the one that sits next to me in the Forum) seem to have a much different view than you do of the Pastner situation.

Great OP, Merrick. It is a damn accurate portrayal of the absolute necessity of MEMPHIS gaining a P5 conference affiliation.
But good luck getting the usual suspects to forego their constant assault and berating of Pastner. It has risen to the level of an art form. It's a competitive thing now. The usual suspects will unload on Pastner on ANY thread, regardless of topic.
You can't put the toothpaste back in the tube. It's too late. It's out of control and WILL continue unabated. As Bluto advised: Deal with it.

Why do people still not understand that Bowen is not calling the shots. It is Rudd. Bowen is raising money and trying to clean up the mess that he inherited. Rudd has the final call, not Bowen.

then rudd needs to hide under a rock and let bowen do his job. martin needs to piss off as well. unless the big 12 is telling us not to fire pastner, he needs to go. pastner and his losing ways are not good for business.

RE: STR: $EC getting serious about Hoops?
Merrick has it 100% correct as far as it's B12 or bust. Tried explaining "full cost of attendance" to my GF last night and she said "How will the teams in the smaller conferences afford it?" and I told her, we simply won't be able to compete.
It's P5 or death. We have between 3-12 years I'm guessing before FBS splits into FBS (P5) and FCS+ (AAC/MWC/SunBelt/CUSA). They'll probably find a way to make the FCS BB Work (oddly the BE and A10 might do really well with no FB team to field), but the FBS will simply shed the Belt/CUSA and almost all of the AAC/MW. A 'best of the rest' FB only might form as the 6th little brother (say E: Cincy, ECU, UCF, USF, Memphis and W: SMU, Boise, SDSt, Houston, Colorado St), but that conference would probably be on life support from day one (and god knows what happens to the rest of our sports).
It's push the chips in time. I think the BB team matters to all of us, but all available resources need to be put wherever the B12 wants us to put them.
If they say jump, we say 'how high?'

It is always nice to be on those but Forbes lists are a bit subjective. The new one is out. Arkansas jumped to 17 but Bama made it higher so there you go on subjectivity.

So http://csnbbs.com/thread-726912-post-117...id11765604 ?
A president's job is a tad bigger than the basketball program. So won't call it a bad hire just because he doesn't want to can Pastner.

Rudd is under no illusion how important P5 is for our sports future. None. And I would wager heavily that he has a whole lot more facts at his disposal than the above average message board insider.

Indeed, sports is merely a high profile fraction of the overall picture. His primary goal is to serve the University's overall interests, not just those of the Tigers Athletic Department. This doesn't diminish the importance of high level D1 athletics, but does put it in the proper context.

STR: $EC getting serious about Hoops?
We probably have very little chance of getting into a P5 conference.. I understand trying our best and pulling out all stops but I just hate basketball has to suffer because of it.. One thing is for sure if Fuente has a good season next year he will be gone and then what?? They better be willing to pony up a lot more than we are currently paying.. I actually thought Fuente's raise was a slap in the face especially on a University supposedly going all in for FB, especially when you have a BB Coach making what he is making for nothing but Mediocrity..
