Personally I don't think Routh did a bad job BUT the movie itself wasn't a "Superman" movie...to action-less for me. Spacey did a good job as Lex. Man of Steel had a lot of potential and I liked it for what it was...but it had too many God-Like fights in it--IMO that was its only drawback...

I agree that they haven't found "THE SPIDERMAN" yet but the new guy was less annoying and sappy than Tobey's portrayal. The two new ones main issue was Sony tinkering with them too much and making the end product not as concise as it could have/should have been.
That's a true assessment of MOS.. The 2nd one will be the tell tale if Cavill is the man to wear the cape..

Andrew Garfield did an excellent job I thought. I look back to Riddick, Iron Man, Thor, etc.. Those movies at the end could be the only movie done, but it always leaves an opening.. End of Iron Man, he announces I'm Iron Man then in the credit we meet Nick Fury and he mentions the Avengers.. What does the 2nd movie bring to the table about the Avengers, nothing except for them finding Thor's hammer that's alluded to in the movie and then shown in the credits and the makeshift Capt. America shield Colston finds while Stark was synthesizing the element.

See I miss out on a lot in these movies because I never really got into comic books, but I do enjoy the movies.

Whiplash- DVD- If you haven't seen it, watch it. Think 'Full Metal Jacket' but with musicians. JK Simmons earned his Oscar. Excellent movie in my opinion. Good story and ending.

The Theory of Everything- DVD- Honestly, I can't give a good review. I fell asleep about halfway in because we started it late but I got about half watched. From the beginning to that point it was a good movie. I'm not up to snuff on Hawking's life, but it was interesting none the less.

We did go to Best Buy this weekend and I picked up some Blu Rays pretty cheap. I got Ferris Bueller for $8, all 3 Austin Powers for $13, and the new Hunger Games for $20. That's not counting the Goonies I picked up a month ago for $6.

RE: The movie thread
Wow, been a while

Fast and Furious 2,4,5, and 6 / BR
--Gone back through before 7 released.
--Didn't get to 1 and 3.
--Liked stuff from each in their own way. I do think the tie ins for 4-6 to get to 7 seem kind of stretching it in a way. I am also surprised how this started as a street car racing movie series in 1-3 to being full blown international criminals in smuggling cars, gas or whatever...

Fast and the Furious 7/ theater
--Not a bad send off for the end of this story. Statham was legit on the racing and the fighting. The story seems even more convoluted with the inclusion of ____'s character. Granted I could by Shaw's brother being a bad ass and coming for the team. I think the stunts are getting a little out of hand now in the series though.

The DaVinci Code / Angels and Demons / BR
--Personally, I thought A&D made the better movie overall but both are kind of interesting.

Speed Racer / BR
--Can't stand the haters of the live action movie. I thought they did a great job with the way they took it live action.

The Hobbit Trilogy / BR
--Did I like the movies? Yes. Did I think Peter Jackson milked it for all it was worth? Yes. That is what irks me about this trilogy--they could have made it one movie or at best two with sub 2.5 hour movies and do what they needed to do. It seems like the extension to 3 movies was allowing for more "contextual" content and the use the "epic" scope design started in the LotR trilogy to extend out large mass fighting scenes. I did kind of get into the tale of Thorin though...the deal with his dad, the king under the mountain, and how that treasure turned him as it did his dad. Bard's tale was interesting too. Not sure how I felt about the Elf guy wanting to start stuff.

Miami Vice TV/ NetFlix
--got back into watching the 80s tv show series again. I have to admit, this was definitely a 10pm time slot kind of show. I'm about halfway done with Season 1.

The Man with the Iron Fists/ BR
--Rza's directorial debut and a pretty decent martial arts flick considering. If he works on his skills a little more I think he can do some good things with new martial arts movies.

Afro Samurai: Resurrection / dvd
--a sequel movie to the 5 part miniseries done as "volume 1." I'm really kind of sad they never did more of these as the artwork, voice acting, storylines, and what not were all pretty good.

Well I finally watched Interstellar on DVD. I think we are far enough out that I won't be spoiling anything.

I was left with three distinct impression once I finished. One, that the movie is a love letter to NASA. Two, that it pays a great deal of homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey. And finally that no matter where you (humanity) goes there you (the emotions and feelings that comprise the human condition)are. It's definitely a wonderful film that I would recommend to anymore.

You have to watch the first one just to understand how Dom & Brian relationship developed. The 2nd one just introduces Roman (Tyrese) and Tej (Ludacrous) to the series. The 3rd movie introduces Han and is where the Furious 7 picks up at.

With Furious 7, there are two story lines going at the same time. The action is ridiculous and very over the top, but I don't watch these F&F series for the realness, I watch it because the chit is insanely unreal but still fun at the same time. Considering they had to just about rewrite the whole movie following Walker's death, I think they did a pretty good job with it. And you could not have ask for a better send off for Paul Walker at the end of the movie.

I still think F&F 6 was the best one followed by F&F Tokyo Drift & Fast Five. But Furious 7 is definitely the best action film of all of them.

Love Statham and Kirk Russell in this movie. And the fact that the movie has already grossed 801.5 million dollars world wide in just two weeks show the tremendous fanbase this movie has. It's expected to reach the billion dollar club by this time next Monday. I don't remember a movie that reached a billion dollars world wide in three weeks. That's crazy!

They both liked cars? I mean, I guess Brian had a change of heart of how he looked at Dom at the end of 1. But in that movie they were way more about Dom than the back story to how Brian got to the FBI to go undercover to bust Dom. They've been trying to explain it ever since in the movies. They've worked on developing their relationship of them needing each other since 4.

I like Tokyo Drift as a movie, the only thing that really bugged me about it was though that the final race was a straight copy of the Mt. Akina (sp?) race out of Initial D (anime series AND the live action movie FWIW). And they never really got into how Han could pull his stuff in and somehow DK's uncle couldn't. I could buy DK wanting to show his uncle he's a gangster but he can't get out from behind his uncles shadow to sign.

The Man with the Iron Fists 2 / BR
--Saw it randomly out in Wal Mart and didn't even know he did a sequel. That said, The Rza did not direct this one like he did the original. The movie is less over the top bad assness and crazy character driven like the first one but more a solid story and solid kung fu--feels like a more traditional kung fu movie.

Daredevil / NF series
--First original NF series I have watched. I like the more realistic tone of this than say what the Ben Affleck movie had. I am liking the depth of the character development.

Ghost in the Shell/ dvd
--a great anime

DareDevil (Netflix) - Two Big Thumbs Up. I didn't have a problem with the Ben Affleck version either.

Well, from what I remember, this tv show is more "realistic." But I don't know enough about DareDevil to make judgements on characters and story lines. I am liking how they are doing the tv show. That said, I thought the Elektra spin off movie was better than Affleck's DareDevil.

The brutality of JK Simmons character vs the brutality of R Lee Ermey's DS in FMJ.. Think of the tactics used by both.. Humiliation.. Berating.. Physical assault.

Blade/dvd
--took a chance on it when it came out in the theaters....I was totally hooked on Snipes being bad ass vampire killer with his martial arts skills. Granted, I like 2 more than 1 but without 1 you couldn't have had 2. The only real drawback to the first one was the poor CGI in the Blood God finale. Otherwise, the movie is MONEY. Don't get me started on Blade 3 though, its a "what could have been" for me. I have to agree with some of my friends that looked like Snipes phoned it in for a paycheck.

Saw Furious 7 a couple of weeks go. I still like Fast & Furious 6 a lot more, but I did enjoy Furious 7. It even had a beautiful send off for Paul Walker's character.

Going to see Age of Ultron on Thursday; can't wait!

Here's my thing about the F&F franchise.

I was in college when the first one came out.. I liked it and really liked the 2nd one.. I forget when I finally watched Tokyo Drift, but it wasn't bad, I actually liked Lucas Black in the role he played.. The 4th and 5th ones weren't all that bad.. I watched number 6 yesterday.. I find it hard to believe they went from street racers to international criminals on the run to federal agents... However, they're not a bad movie series.. I just think that as I got older my taste changed and I can't enjoy these movies like I did at 18 and 19.. That being said, I'll watch 7 when I can rent it or find it on HBO, but it'll be one of those it's just me for the weekend.

And I'll be watching "The Age of Ultron" Friday evening.
