RE: No band or cheerleaders?
Broken record time: the Atheletic department is in financial straights. Football is the priority. Understand this is a dramatic change to how we have always done things, but this is AS it should be. I am sure Bowen would have preferred to send the cheerleaders, band and thousands of fans. Not this year...

I understand that it's a pretty significant price to send a bunch of college students to Connecticut. But, that's what is so cool about March madness. You get all of the teams, fans, bands, and cheerleaders in one location for a really fun weekend. And considering that this is technically a neutral site game, it does have to suck to never hear your fight song or your cheerleaders leading a chant.
Yes.

Reminds me of the CUSA tournaments in the Forum....I always felt badly for the universities that didn't have enough money to send their cheerleaders and bands. Some of them sent a smaller version. We didn't even do that.

Yep. Why do people refuse to accept this? Talk about not seeing the forest for the trees...

Apathy or the fact that donations are and will be down so much.
To me, it's another huge sign that there has to be a change made immediately.
Umm, wasn't Josh's decision and I'm guessing if we were the one seed they wouldn't have traveled either. If the point was to save money bringing them and paying for them to stay for 2 nights (assuming as a one seed we would've won) doesn't make any sense either.
That's really not the point. The point is, to me at least, things have changed big time. Basketball has been the bell cow here, unlike other schools. It screams problems.
Agreed about bball being the bell cow here forever but that's also the reason the athletic dept is in the shape it is and Bowen is having to make tough cuts to get us back on track.

Yes.
I cheer for the Tigers.
Win. Lose. NCAA. NIT. Best. Worst.
Tigers are Tigers. And I'm a Tiger fan.
Love that M..

Ironic to see people who chose not to spend their own money and time attending the conference tournament criticizing the man who is responsible for keeping our athletic department financially afloat.

Memphis was the ONLY school not to send a band or pep squad. We looked like the "backwater" of the conference. This is ridiculous.

That's the attitude that will kill this program.
Football needs basketball to thrive and if you think the big shots are going to cower and let one guy, Pastner, negatively impact the entire sports program cash flow situation, you're dead wrong.
I understand that we all have different opinions, but the entire sports program at the university hinges, at the moment, on the success of basketball.
The question that is being mulled over is simple. Do you bite the bullet, pony up money now and get rid of Josh to reignite basketball or do you bet, literally, that he turns it around and rekindles the attitude and tradition that we have had here.
The one year window that they could give Pastner is quite literally one year. But in that one year, your program could hemorrhage unmercifully. This university simply can't afford that gamble, long term.

I'm curious why you think football needs basketball to survive and do you really think this is the lowest this program has been in its history? I mean, we survived Tic Price, Moe Iba, Zach Curlin, and on. We suck now and it sucks but my god one or two bad years does not ruin this program. I mean, you make it sound like Josh hasn't won a game in a year, hasn't recruited highly, and whatever else could conceivably "kill" a program. Take a step back from the ledge. I'm not sticking up for Josh either, just showing that any coach can come here and still recruit and win so other coaches aren't "scared" off. I don't really think Josh is the longterm answer but at the same time I'm not worried about our program becoming some dumpster fire either.

With all due respect to the importance of our basketball program, I had hoped that by now that we finally realize everything hinges on FOOTBALL.

Agreed, I just don't get where all this "we are doomed" and "the program will never survive another year of him" comes from? I am seriously confused about how you could cheer for this program and think ONE GUY (who is not even close to the worst of our past coaches) could bring us down? Someone please explain this to me.

It will be OK when we get in the Big12 to be the only one.

When we get into the Big 12, sending the band, cheerleaders and even the more loyal members of the "Blue Crew" will be affordable.

If this is how a program is supposed to be run, then why were we the only school without pep band and cheerleaders?

RE: No band or cheerleaders?
Just wanna know for certain...Did all these teams sent their bands and cheerleaders?
SMU Mustangs
Tulsa Golden Hurricane
Cincinnati Bearcats
Temple Owls
Connecticut Huskies
Tulane Green Wave
East Carolina Pirates
UCF Knights
Houston Cougars
South Florida Bulls
lol. That could even be taken as insulting to the American conference...if we care about such things.
Spin it how you want, folks, but it's still weird. If nothing else, it's weird that we even got ourselves in such a situation.

But when something is as obvious as this, it's better to keep up a good front. Our POM squad is known nationally--14 national titles. Generally, they perform at halftimes. We get free PR.
