MyBB Possible destinations for Josh Pastner
Many of us are not happy that he will be rewarded with another season. There is, however, hope. The below list of schools are all struggling or underperforming & have been for a few years under their current coaches. The one snag may well be cjp's contract & these schools not being willing to pay north of $2 million to get him. But I do believe, that because of a lack of true basketball savee, many on the outside looking in will see the job he's done & at least inquire. Those not close to the situation really don't understand our dissatisfaction. They don't see the 4 & 5 star players that cjp has completely underperformed with for 5 years now. So here's hoping. & these are the schools to keep your eye on. & schools that Bowen & Josh's agent need to be talking to right now.

Texas A&M: Billy Kennedy

Washington: Lorenzo Romar

Oklahoma St.: Travis Ford

UNLV: Davis Rice

Georgia Tech: Brian Gregory

Arizona St.: Herb Sendek

RE: Possible destinations for Josh Pastner
I am operating under the assumption Josh Pastner will be the coach of the University of Memphis next year.

Having said that, I think that if CJP is considering leaving, he'd likely do well at Arizona State...

I get what you are saying. But I'm 1 1/2 hours from a&m & i can assure you they are beginning to see the negatives in a coach who can recruit & not coach. It's kind of like a man with all the tools under he sun in his shed, but if you asked him to build something he wouldn't know where to start. That is where memphis & a&m are.

I think there's about a 0% chance he's not our coach next year. When you look at the 4 straight tournaments, the talent coming in, the money; I don't see how it will or should happen. He should be "encouraged" to get a real coaching staff. he needs some dudes that can help coach the team. We could have a squad next year with some competent coaching and it would be nice if that was taken advantage of.

He has a job with a ringing endorsement from his AD and a fantastic salary. Why would he leave?

RE: Possible destinations for Josh Pastner
Doesn't Pastner make 2.65 million a year? Doesn't he have a huge buyout?
Are there other schools willing to pay him 2.65 million a year?

He isn't leaving on his own.

Of these, I think Romar, Gregory and Sendek are the one's who will most likely be replaced. I would also add Tom Crean to that list (even though IU's AD gave him the dreaded vote of confidence last week) and Rick Barnes at Texas.

Will be interesting to see the merry-go-round begin after the NCAA tournament. Indiana, Texas, Arizona State and Georgia Tech are all relatively attractive jobs that will put a lot of coaching wheels into motion.

That said, I don't think Coach Pastner will be a candidate for any of them. Here's hoping 2015-16 is a bounce back year for our team and our coach.

I don't know if Josh could get any of those jobs. Let's not kid ourselves, what he has done (or not done) here is not some secret knowledge. Outside media might look at the shorthand, but AD's they will be way savvier than that. All that being said, Pastner is also savvier than that, if he could leave, he would leave. He is a young man, just starting out his career and for him it is far, far better to quit than be fired. And the firing is coming, just not this year.

I don't know what is more embarrassing...this thread or the fact that so many of you were posting these things in the very wee hours of the night.

Tommy West was right.

Interesting situation to say the least. Bowen has gone on record supporting Pastner. If Pastner were to now go out and make himself available to other positions - and worse, if he were to land one of those positions - it would leave Memphis scrambling to find a replacement. Doesn't seem like something Pastner would do, but stranger things as they say...

I've given thought to the extensions question. I think we have to give him a one-year extension if for no other reason than a selling tool to recruits, but I don't think we should increase his salary. Furthermore, if we give him an extension, I think we should restructure his buyout. But, all of that is way above my pay grade.

What the hell does the time of night have to do with anything? Not everyone is on the same schedule as you. There are all kinds of reasons why someone may be on this board in the middle of the night. However, like a number of your comments, if it doesn't fit your agenda, there must be something wrong somewhere.
