Relax people it's the offseason.

UTSA has a hellava OOC and a hellava Conference play schedule. If we get to 6 wins. It's because they were earned.

And because. You overuse periods.

Thanks Mrs. Nancy

UTEP and UNT are gimmies but we need 4 other Ws.

You can do the whole me too thing with the AAC all you want, just keep in mind that they were a BCS conference only a few short years ago that that has some residual affect. Just keep winning and things will always get better.

They were still a BCS conference in the 2013 season. That's how UCF got the Fiesta Bowl slot against Baylor last year.

RE: 6 guaranteed bowls + 1 tie-in
We made a lot of noise this past bowl season. I expect that to continue. The biggest thing we need to be concerned with at this point is finally breaking that BCS/Access Bowl ceiling. The short-term rewards are obvious, big money, extra bowl, media attention, etc.. The long term rewards are that the profile of the conference makes a dramatic up turn, the school involved would more than likely increase its chances of getting a non-cusa bowl if available in subsequent years. Boise making 2 BCS bowls while in the WAC helped their program more than anything else. It gave them legitimacy. It helped them get last years Fiesta Bowl as well, because Marshall was a far better team IMHO. If we can just get a few Access Bowls amongst a few of our top teams, our profile would shoot through the roof.

Just wanted to highlight that sentence fragment for any fans who think their program is forever doomed to failure because it's in CUSA.

WE are extremely grateful for being in the CUSA with a great group of schools. The WAC was a fantastic conference that had a horrible Commissioner. Boise, Hawaii, Tech, Nevada, Utah State all had great opportunities in the WAC. I wish we had more bowls back then but there was plenty of reward for those who could run the table. Even in 2012, if Tech had kept its act together they would have gone to the Orange Bowl. CUSA having 6 guaranteed bowls with a possible extra tie in ensures that close to 50% of our teams will see a bowl. Will we play more MAC teams for now yep, but so what. Compared to a decade ago we got it made.

Agree. This is the best situation Rice has been in since the breakup of the SWC. The WAC 16 fell apart and what was left was too far away. I even like this version of CUSA better now that all the private schools and Memphis are gone. They were a drag on attendance

Not trying to start any trash talking or offend anyone, but you can't have actually typed that without laughing at it. Boise would have absolutely beat Marshall like a red headed step child. And I'm even willing to admit that marshall was definitely the second best Go5 team by a decent margin. (by the way, late congrats on the great season Marshall fans. Also I would like to wish everyone good luck in stomping the nUTSAcks in the face next season 02-13-banana)

Rant over. Carry on and have a wonderful hump day! 04-cheers

RE: 6 guaranteed bowls + 1 tie-in
People outside of this league have no idea how good Marshall was last year. They had one bad game defensively and the the I told you so types came out of the hills.

I don't even think Cato was playing at 80% of what he was capable of last season and they were still beating down everyone.

It's funny because the same comments were being said about NIU and how it was the best the G5 program yet we saw what happened when they got on the same field with Marshall. A Boise vs Marshall game would have been a better matchup but to suggest what was said above is what's laughable.

Not from my perspective. I offer up:

Fresno State 27 at Boise State 37 (regular MWC season)
Fresno State 14 Boise State 28 (MWC championship game)
Rice 30 Fresno State 6 (Hawaii Bowl)
Rice 14 at Marshall 41

Fresno State stayed within two scores of Boise State in both games, but got beat soundly by Rice in the bowl game. Rice was also beaten soundly at Marshall during the regular season.

Marshall didn't get the chance, but Boise did what it had to do to be crowned as the king of the G5 last year. They won their access bowl game. I think Marshall also would have been competitive with a chance to win.

I agree. Just look at the teams' schedules. Marshall is nothing compared to Boise! Sorry. I think they are still high off this past season and the fact they played no P5 competition and chose an easy opponent in the Bowl game! I think La Tech is the real winner of the Conference based off their schedule and who they beat in a Bowl game. I have a lot of respect for the Herd, but I would love to see them face more powerhouse teams! It would be cool to see Marshall vs Boise State AKA a Boise State team that beat Georgia, Oregon, TCU, VT, Utah, ASU, Arizona, BYU, Oregon State and many others!

I thought you had 5 guaranteed tie ins last year, did you add a bowl that wasn't there previously?

CUSA has always had decent tie ins.
