I guess we aren't close to selling out our allotment
DALLAS (SMU) - The Mustangs will go for their first conference tournament championship since 1993 March 12-15 in Hartford, Conn., at the 2015 American Athletic Conference Tournament. Mustang fans who can't make the 1,500-plus-mile trek from Dallas can send U.S Navy members to the games.

SMU Athletics will sponsor the Naval Submarine Base New London, the Navy's first Submarine Base and the "Home of the Submarine Force," sending tickets to the service men and women and their families for the tournament.

Fans can purchase these gift ticket packages for $199 by clicking here using the code ponyup. many texans and their families are stationed at this military base, and the tickets purchased through this program are a tax-deductible gift.

Almost every submariner in today's Navy will be stationed at the Naval Submarine Base New London for training. A tour of duty in one of the fast-attack submarines home ported here or with a pre-commissioning crew for a new submarine under construction at General Dynamics Electric Boat Shipyard in Groton may follow. Occupying more than 680 acres, with more than 160 major facilities and 15 nuclear submarines, Naval Submarine Base New London supports fleet readiness by providing quality service and facilities to our Fleet, Fighters, and Families. The Base mission is twofold: to homeport and put Submarines to sea; and to support the Submarine Center of Excellence that trains Sailors to take Submarines to sea.

Naval Submarine Base New London is also home to more than 70 tenant commands and activities including Commander Submarine Group Two; the Submarine Learning Center; Naval Submarine School; the Naval Submarine Medical Research Laboratory; and, the Naval Undersea Medical Institute.

RE: I guess we aren't close to selling out our allotment
Not exactly an easy trip for the Western and Southeastern fan bases. I guess the AAC plans on having dynamic sites as opposed to static. Staging the game in Memphis makes travel much easier. Does the Big 12 have territory rights in Dallas?

Unfortunately for the conference I don't think many Memphis fans will make the trip since we suck and Nicholls is out for the year.

To be fair, UCONN travels more and farther than anyone else playing in this conference. I also think it was well-deserved after last year.

True. I would like to see it in Memphis in the future though as it would be drive able for the most amount of teams.

I don't think anyone travels more than UConn in this conference. Throw us a bone every once in a while.

I thought the Navy was moving all submarine facilities to Virginia. It's nice to know there's still a lot up in Connecticut. Nearby is the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and Mystic Seaport (a recreated 1830's New England whaling village).

New England is really cool if you like history.

I was just on base a few weekends ago, visiting a buddy. I love the Connecticut shoreline.

I have no issue with it. UConn is easily the best basketball brand in conference. Having the tournament there is good for branding the league on national tv.

Memphis was a failure last year. Nobody showed up except for Memphis games.

Orlando's Amway Center will be hosting the AAC Tourn in 2016-2017 and 2017-2018.

A Tourn held during "Spring Break" in Orlando should bring plenty of visitors down for the tournament...and hopefully the 2 local teams (UCF and USF) fans will show up in good numbers for the short drive.

Well, this isn't Madison Square Garden (yeah, I'm lamenting the past, sue me). But it could be decent.

We need a crappy sponsor since we are not cool enough or big enough to have neutral site for our championship (like the big boys do).

How about, the Powerbar AAC Tournament or the Russel Athletic AAC Tournament, etc.?

SMU fans are waiting for the tournament - the biggest fans want to go to the big tournament, not hit the AAC at the farthest spot from us you could pick - and then have to go again the next week. We will travel very well to the first NCAA tournament spot.

I was at the championship game with UConn-Louisville, and I believe it had about 11,000.

I watched a show on Smithsonian channel called "Aerial America" the other day and it featured Connecticut. I didn't realize that there was so much beautiful countryside up there. It must have been filmed in early fall because the leaves on the trees had just started turning. I have never been there and thought the whole state was one big city.

I really hate to say it, and I hope I'm wrong, but I think this is going to be a disaster. Unless UCF has a remarkable turnaround and real buzz about our season, our fans aren't going to show up for our own games, let alone anyone else's. I don't expect Bulls fans to travel well either. I'm sure some of the better schools will travel well, but it's not realistic or fair to expect anyone else to bring enough fans to keep the Amway Center from looking cavernously empty on TV. It's not like this area is nuts about college basketball, so I don't expect too many fans to come in "off the street," either.
