RE: STR - Is Rick Barnes done?
memphis is a better job than texas. when the program is thriving, nothing overshadows tiger basketball in this city. texas basketball is third fiddle behind football and baseball.

RE: STR - Is Rick Barnes done?
The question is does Marshall want to jump after this season or can he wait a year? I'm thinking he has taken Wichita St as far as he can. He seems like he knows that he will need to strike why the iron is hot. And if he don't his agent does.

I have no idea what they might do, but the following would help:

(1) Josh is a far better coach now than he was when we hired him, due to great experience gained on our money

(2) He is an excellent recruiter

(3) His players graduate and stay out of trouble compared to other programs

(4) He is a good ambassador for the university

(5) Never had a losing season, despite inheriting a wrecked program

Wasn't it only 7 or 8 years ago, when Memphians were calling into the radio talk shows calling for Calipari to be fired?

not really. Just hope Texas and Indiana don't fire their coaches

How do you feel about neither one of those things happening?

There are people around the program with an interest

Not sure it will happen

I think Rudd is still the issue. He wants to give Pastner another year.

like i've said before, send rudd packing too. only a fool would give pastner another year. next year's team will not be better than the 2014 team, so anyone expecting a deep run next year is delusional. on top of that, we have no idea how many players will stick around for next year. if the rumored mass exodus is half way true, next year's roster will be bare bones with no quality backup players. rudd and the fat cats need to forget about any perceived heat we'll get from the media (many of whom don't give two sh*ts about our city or school), can pastner, and make a full on press to lure marshall here.

The only thing that might force a change sooner is if the rumored mass transfers at the end of the season start to become reality. Shaq, Nick, Pookie, and Burrell all leaving is basically a player mutiny. And based on what I saw Saturday between Nichols and Pastner, I'm not 100% convinced Nichols will return either.

The issue is this is a triage situation, we have pneumonia (under performing basketball program) and a gun shot wound (the desperate need to get in on the next round of re-alignment; and make no mistake it is desperate); you take care of the gun shot wound before you worry about the pneumonia.

None of the Gregg Marshall rumors can possibly be true. So what if 2 people who know GM personally (KE and Parish) have now both mentioned him. We have more "knowledgeable" posters who have said Memphis can do no better than Josh and no one wants this job.

it is what it is. I also think it is more Parrish and Easterwood know Steve Forbes more than Gregg Marshall

Any high profile coach would be leary of coming here if Josh is fired after this year.

If next year produces the same result as this year, and attendance is even worse, "they" will be cirlcing the wagons.

Texas fans sound like tiger fans
Quote:Watching this isn't even upsetting me anymore. It is just sad to watch. Why is Holmes on the floor and Taylor off?
Quote:Holmes has a breakaway one on one with a Baylor player and has the ball stolen??! Are you f---king kiddin' me?
Quote:bierce said... (original post)Terrible shot by Felix.
Barnes loved it. It's been obvious he and Holmes give us nothing but they keep getting shots
Quote:Our offense consists of the guards passing the back and forth until we have to shoot because the shot clock runs out.
Quote:So, another ass drubbing at the hands of the bears would just about drive the final nail in the coffin of Barnes - would you say that is an accurate statement?
