This. We have bigs that rebound well now, but can't score. An upgrade would be one that the other team has to guard.

^Blaine's NCAA teams didn't have one scorer on those teams that equals to what we have on the current team. We did it with rebounding and D. We'll have 6 new guys next year and a couple we haven't even talked about.

I was just stating fact off of hard data regarding Stith, not really debatable. Early in the season (was) I believed he led the nation in rebound rate. Things happened, his role diminished and he transferred. He could be our best rebounder and we need a defensive rebounder will Arledge for after this season.

As I recall many fans recognized the shortcomings of that approach. I don't think the answer is either or. I think what we're looking for is balance. A Trey Freeman or two coupled with a Frank Hassell or two would be just the ticket.

We could really use an Aircraft Carrier and I hope we will have one.

Hey 83, just re-reading this. Well, not sure how good he will be but Peyton Pervier is 7'1" and 250. That is approaching aircraft carrier size!

I agree that Peyton should be an aircraft carrier.

Has anything ever mentioned about when a decision will be made by the NCAA on whether Pervier will be granted an additional year of eligibility? As we've seen this year with Douglas it would be helpful to a second year to work into the flow of the offense.

Pervier is 7'1 280lbs. Not 250, also won't know anything about his 2nd year untill he steps foot on campus in the summer. Can't start the process untill he's offically an athlete there. Although from what he has heard from odu and other schools they believe they can't get the 2nd year due to the circumstances.

So he's essentially another Painter,Arledge in that he's one and done. Not sure JJ can make a living on this for long.

No...but until you can get a young big in, I'll take them.

I agree, but what is our problem with recruiting bigs? We haven't had a decent freshman big (unless you count Denzel) since Chris Cooper. Its very odd that for years now we cant seem to find an inside game to match our guards.

^ this. So far JJ has been practical by signing one and dones with some talent. His lack (so far) of being able to bring in young bigs with some talent could be very telling in regards to his recruiting ability.

Bigs are tough to recruit, try to find one that can come in and play. Name 2 bigs in the 757 ready for college ball, now I can name a doz of guards and wings in the 2015 class who are ready. Bigs need development time. We are on one JuCo who has 3 yrs. Stith will have 3 yrs. Both these guys needed the time. Frank and Cooper were only worth a dime in their last two years. They could sit here or played JuCo, does it matter where they do that. Maybe the playing time is better than watching from the bench.

^^^ this.
Voice of reason. I know DaBig follows this stuff closely. The rest of us are just hoping we can land two Odell's every year! That's probably why so many CUSA teams are loaded with JUCOS.

I gotta rethink this Juco idea. It seems to me if a kid has potential and goes the juco route, we're still in the same predicament. The lower level big boys are gonna come after a kid who has had time to develop. BT used to take chances on kids by signing them out of high school and developing them himself. That way he already had the kid if and when he developed. Of course if he struck out, which we all know he did, (Harris Larsen etc.) he was kinda stuck with dead wood for a number of years.
Not sure how I feel about juco's. I agree there are plenty of them in C-USA, but there seem to be any number of freshmen making names for themselves as well. Qualifier: Not any 6'10-7' types, but very athletic 6'8-9 types.

I think they're better off here than at Juco, because they have time to practice with the team, gell with with staff and other players and learn the plays. I have to think that Juvante Douglas would be much better at this point if he had spent the last two seasons at ODU. Even just riding the bench. Redshirting like Frank did is another option. JuCo isn't always the greatest competition either. Playing against a D1 college team every day is just as good. Plus you lock them up from other schools coming in at the last minute. But it is sure nice to have a few to even out the classes and be a stop gap in a situation like we are in now.

Frank became skilled because his parents could afford to send him to that big man camp (Pete Newell? Correct me if I have the name wrong.).
