But this isn’t about one bad year in an otherwise healthy program. This is about an already frustrated fan base finally deciding to tune out....... Geoff Calkins
I hope this is not , but, I am afraid it is true.
I think it's definitely true. I was less invested last year than the previous season, and this year I'm less invested than last.
I'm not to the point of refusing to renew, but at some people are - regardless, everyone will start asking themselves if this kind of situation is worth spending $___________ (whatever your donation plus ticket price is).

This is the third year in a row I haven't renewed. Second year I skipped TV games. First year not bothering to listen to the radio.

He'll squeeze that in between yapping about Oak Hall and the Commisary

Can someone give a overview of the article? I assume it's about people not showing up and renewing their seats?

All I know is that my son normally begs me to go to tiger games, and he hasn't asked once this year. We go to 4-6 games a year , and haven't gone once this year.

Hope things make a Calipari turn soon. As when he turned it around after 5 years.

Basically about a fan who has been attending games since Finch played against Neumann as freshmen. A guy who finally had enough and gave up his seats after last year.

Yeah, that can't happen. As a outside viewer it's painfully obvious. Hell, I don't get excited like I used too. I just watch the games and hope something changes but it doesn't.

Lol, I've heard that
you must have good sources
Reading between the lines, these posts suggest that 'the powers that be' (assuming Rudd/Bowen) might be of the opinion that Josh deserves more time, as opposed to a quicker exit (end of season) ... perhaps regardless of season outcome ? Calkins position implies the damage to the program and support, along with reasonable expectations within 6-seasons, might suggest otherwise.
The math seems to support that. Regardless of the the arguments of the buyout number, losing 2,000+ people a game with likely more not renewing next year projects into a figure in the millions.
I wouldn't suspect many current tix holders would refuse to renew "in protest" if Josh were removed, but bringing in a new guy could re-energize a fan base suffering from malaise.
...depending on who the new guy is

The only home game I've missed this season is Western Illinois. I still get excited over good plays still get mad at the refs etc. All the basic fan stuff. But then I watch the way he subs and listen to him in the post game and all the excitement goes away.

I don't think it necessarily depends on WHO the new guy is - though a name certainly helps at the very beginning - I think it matters what the new guy DOES.
If he comes in, keeps the roster pretty much intact, keeps the recruits, shores up any needed late recruiting and things of that nature, then the fans will be excited come next season.

So in his view, last years team was the worst team in about 40 years? I've seen alot worse. Maybe the real issue is the amount of money required to have the right to purchase the seats is driving people away.

The substitution patterns kill me and I haven't listened to post game in years. I watch a lot of games with my parents and his starting line ups/substitutions drive my dad batchit crazy.
Having no identity drives both of us nuts too. At least under Cal you knew that defense was our identity and the team would always improve throughout the season.

I suggest you go buy a paper and read the entire article. He even said he lived through two years of Larry Porter. But yeah to you he's probably a jackazz who just hates Josh

I've seen worse too and support was bad under Pimp Price, but that can't happen. This is the lifeblood of Memphis.

Not many AD's that would make a coaching change in this situation. Your going to fire a guy that made the NCAA the last 4 years, has a nice recruiting class coming in, has guys performing in the classroom and has almost no one getting in trouble off the court? I doubt it will happen. I would like to see a change, but I do not expect it after this season.
I can see the scenario where JP is offered help in 'picking a teaching assistant' and refuses....that might get ugly.
