My take, FWIW
Some of you are dear tiger fans through thick and thin, and are upset at your fellow Tiger fans who are being critical of Coach. I applaud your positive nature, and hold no ill will toward you. But you need to cut the other side some slack.
Look you guys. It's not that hard to understand. Some are shocked - SHOCKED - that we have gone from a team that breaths a sigh of relief when we eek out a win over a RPI 150 team to a team that jumps for joy in the same circumstance. Compare the team's reaction to CDR running the length of the floor in 4 seconds at the buzzer to beat UAB by a point - to celebrating like world-beaters when the other team misses a half-court heave at the buzzer.

I used to have a football coach that taught us to "act like you've been there"... when you score, when you win, when you do anything. We act like WE are Tulane. That's the problem. We HAVE been there. We just don't act like it.

If that makes me a "miserable", so be it. I have standards for the Tigers. Coach Pastner does not meet those standards. Neither did Tick Price. That didn't mean I wasn't a true fan at that time. Quite the contrary, my University was more at heart than the man at the helm. Just like Calipari... He was NOT the university of Memphis. He was merely an employee of MY University. I was here before him, and I am here after him. He is the outsider. Not me, nor any other true fan.

Now... Come at me, bro[s].

Uh, uh, ahhh... 05-nono As you opined in another thread, if you couldn't care less, you wouldn't have even bothered to post that you couldn't care less....

For me it isn't so much that they were excited after winning a tight one, glad they were happy for Austin and good to see him have a big moment as he grows into being the MAN on this team, it's dealing with a coach who over his tenure has slowly but surely turned this thing into a CUSA level program. I love the Tigers as much or more than anyone and back it with donating as much as I can and buy tickets in both but I refuse to watch him try and sell our fanbase on accepting mediocrity. This is year 6 not year 1 or 2, we beat Tulane!!!!

Yup. It's supposed to be that way, regardless of whether the team was "supposed" to win or not. Sounds silly to suggest otherwise.

No one is upset at people being critical of the coach.

Those infecting this former fan site with bashing and mocking of the coach etc... is a bit different.

Nice try.

Bartow's year four was not nearly as good as two and three. Kirk's year four was not as good as year three. I am not making a call on Pastner but wondering on how the OP feels about the fact other winning head men have slipped, too. For the record, Bartow lost his three best players while Kirk lost his point guard and had to start a freshmen. None of us know whether next year will be fine or not, whether Pastner is here or not, or if some of our players will leave early. What we do know is that we won't be the one to decide or who is the coach.

Well said.

People with blind hatred of certain posters will argue against the person, not the post.

In a separate thread, I echoed what you have said.

I love the team, the city and my alma mater. I, however, am concerned that the current leadership on the staff will not maximize the potential of this program. I base this on not just Saturday but over the past six years. This isn't a referendum on Saturday's post-game celebration just more insight on how he sets expectations.

Lack of attendance hurt Finch. It is hurting Pastner as well. So your above statement might not be correct.

Lack of attendance was 5% of what hurt Finch, but 80% of the reason given....

"THEY" have NOT been there before... I don't see the fans storming the court after every win... the fans have, this team hasn't. We don't have that many returning players on this team, so get over yourself. Now we are upset that we celebrate too much winning a close game against a conference opponent that beat us earlier this year. Wow!!! Just wow....

I just think they were so happy because of the way they won. A last second shot, running a play like it was drawn up. That is exciting no matter who you play. And I also think JP is maybe playing it up because he wants the guys to get pumped up. He knows Tulane is no big deal but he is trying to get this team to ramp up. Maybe it is the wrong way but it is his way. I feel it was somewhat artificial and he knew it, but he has to do something.

You have got to be joking. They win on a shot with 3.1 seconds left to avoid loosing a game that looked like it had slipped away. Were they supposed to wait until they were in the Finch Center to celebrate?
I'm not happy with this season; with blowout losses; or with early exits. I've changed my mind on Coach almost from game to game.
With that said, the last four years under the previous coach and the first five under this coach have been EXCEPTIONAL by any measure. That is a fact, and should not be lost in the understandable concern over the current season.

Of all the things to criticize Pastner about, this one's kind of dumb. Players get jacked over buzzer beater wins. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Kirk's 4th team was ranked #1 before losing on the road to Virginia Tech. They won a round of 32 game against Georgetown. The only year Patrick Ewing didn't make it to the title game.

Bartow's 74 team lost Kenon, Robinson and Finch off a national title runner up.

To compare any of that to this season is completely asinine. But it's par for the course for this place.
