I think it was supposed to represent a Sunday Falcons games. So at least the representation was somewhat plausible. 05-stirthepot

Nope. Crappy roads, Crappy public schools. Tons of homeless people suffering on the street.

Those roof sliders look cool, but imagine the long-term cost of maintaining them. I guess a billion dollars gets you a heavy dose of novelty with practicality as an afterthought. If one slider malfunctions, the whole system is useless.

I better go see it before Sherman burns it. Yankees just love to torch nice things.

Arthur Blank is ******* us coming and going, that's how we're building that stadium. Hopefully it will be empty when it opens.

This

He is pretending he is Jerry and he is minus the 40 year loyal fan base and several Super Bowl trophies...

Cool stadium, but if I were an Atlanta taxpayer, I would be pissed. The Georgia Dome is no Jerry World but it's no Metrodome either. It's a fine stadium that still has many years of life in it. I can't imagine how they could possibly justify the $1 billion for something that's a 'want', not a 'need'. The only idea worse is the new stadium for the Braves.

This fellow Yankee disagrees. No group of people are perfect, but I don't recall Lee burning Gettysburg or other Northern towns.

No, Sherman came forward in time and, oblivious to modern day circumstances, wants to burn Atlanta again.

As I joked in one thread, one day they're going to have cities tear down stadiums on the spot after having been built like Bender Bending Rodriguez commanded of his monument on an episode of Futurama.

According to one online mental age test, I am 60. 04-cheers

It's no Florida, that's for sure. We're doing just fine, thanks.

Fortunately, it's only 200 million in taxpayer dollars. The rest he's hoping to wring out of a small but shrinking fan base.

I was just in Atlanta for the Peach Bowl, and I though it was a nice stadium. Can't believe they are building a new one.

I looked up the funding details. The Falcons are paying $1.2B of the cost themselves, and the city and county are paying $200M, plus the annual operating and maintenance costs. The city's part is being 100% funded by a 7% hotel-motel and rental car tax on visitors. The Georgia Dome will be razed, swapping places with the new stadium and serving as parking.

That's correct except I believe the total cost is 1.2 billion and 200 million is coming from the City. That's 200 million that could be applied to a multitude of other things, like infrastructure. The other billion will come from things like $40,000 seat licenses.

Cities build stadiums like Wal-Marts, when will the madness end? If it could support the format, the Falcons could play at Turner Field for the next 30 years let alone the Braves.

It's a pretty good deal. Invest what you have, add a low-interest loan, for an all-but-guaranteed cash-cow revenue stream with few risks.
