HRS / EZF Athletics Construction Thread
Construction Cam Link: http://www.riceowls.com/ot/bpspc-construction-cam.html

I am one of the many out of town alums. I am starting this thread in the hopes that some of the locals can keep us updated with pictures and info posted about the beginning of demolition/construction, which I am under the impression was to begin sometime this month (I apologize if I am off with the start date).

[Image: stadium_building12-310x154.jpg] [Image: primary.jpg] [Image: 10633289.jpeg]
[Image: 11992992.jpeg] [Image: 1024x1024.jpg] [Image: uTrhKHd.jpg] [Image: 920x920.jpg] [Image: patterson-lg.jpg] [Image: 13737020_869582316506100_541123806_n.jpg...OA%3D%3D.2]

from the press release: "Donors have pledged all of the funding, which will allow construction on the stadium to begin in early 2015."

I note that it was a random internet search for "Rice pics" years ago that led me to this forum via Grungy and others' regular updates of the renovations of HRS during the summer before TG's first and only season here at Rice.

Thanks in advance. Also, thanks to those who attend Rice games and post crowd/facilities pictures in the game-threads, like Tiki. Would be curious to see some pregame exteriors of Tudor and Reckling occasionally if possible. Thanks again.

The stadium looks really nice in your picture. Very clean. Has anyone heard when construction will start? My guess is late Spring when the weather improves, like April. Will there be any cosmetic improvements to the stadium during Phase 1?

They have been saying that it would start since 2010. At this point in time I have to see to believe it. Might actually make the drive into town just to see it.

This is the first time the EZF actually has full funding. Previously there was an estimated time table based on the assumption that funding would be available.

Unless there is some unforeseen disaster, I would assume that we will see the ground breaking very soon. Anyone have insight on when the first bit of dirt is going to be moved?

Has all the engineering been done?

Not sure of the situation in Houston, but if they were trying to build it in Austin there would be many, many months spent getting permits.

Not a civil/structural engineer in Houston, but I know a few, and my understanding is that there are still plenty of permits that the CoH requires, depending on the type of work being done. There may be no zoning, but there are still construction permits. But I'm not sure how much easier it is to basically renovate an existing structure, as opposed to developing a previously undeveloped parcel, with regards to permits.

I wonder if the design and permitting work had already been started prior to the official announcement, in order to help expedite the construction.

I'd expect to see something here once they begin work. There are actually no projects listed in the "Current Projects" section, which is a bit surprising since they've cleared ground for the Moody Center for the Arts.

There must, at least, be a groundbreaking ceremony. If nothing else, leave it for halftime of the first home game. Fireworks ? How about some backhoes tearing schitt up during second half play while we watch the game? Do something.

Rick you're awesome. Most optimistic guy out there. From reading your post you would think that you're on DB and Rice payroll.

If this is the first time they actually have funding then DB and staff has been misleading because they have been making promises for years now. I would hope they would have more information than you on the funding aspect. Just a thought. But I love how you defend the flag

??? RiceLad brings a balanced perspective to a lot of discussions. We may disagree on several things, but this post is ridiculous.

Rick Greenspan, who everyone agrees was a POS, made some claims. I do not recall DB doing any such thing.

I rode behind the north side today. Are we going to lose all the cypress trees there?

Heck no I'm not joking! Tear it up. I want to see it happen. Stuff like this should be fun! Make the groundbreaking ceremony an event. Let people watch something get demolished or removed! That would be so cool!

I noticed those trees the past couple years as my son played in the kidszone. It all depends on where the back of the facility stops. It would be a shame if they were lost. They're finally maturing and filling out.

I like Lad a lot too, and Rick as well. But having nobody on the other side would make this board like a volleyball game with all the players on one side of the net...boring.

The HAIF forum will probably be a good place to keep track of the buildout of the EZF. http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/

They have a section on sports construction. No thread yet that I found on the EZF.
