I believe he loves UAB and UAB football, but he quit on it against these bullies and he took a pay out (which should be illegal).

His and/or family life threatened? Greyhound killers are a tough bunch.

Or, just maybe even closer to home: Who would've ever thought that they would get away with killing UAB football? If the power players in/of the BoT are so sure of themselves and have so little regard for public opinion, existing rules & bylaws, etc., what would prevent them from turning inside-out the life of one, "lowly" step-child institution's AD?

Wow. You don't even have to know the details of this case to see the corruption oozing from this story. Just look at the way PBJ and Fess and Witt are all brought into the discussion and their clear involvement and micromanagement of UAB football.

Then look at the way they discuss having to present it in just such a way to go around the 3 year deal rather than 5 years. Also would seem to jive with suspicions of premeditation.

This story and the accompanying audio is big.

From the incomplete conversations that we got from these recordings...it was my understanding that Mackin at first was going to have him on speakerphone with everyone but then stated he didn't know how Watts would feel about being on speaker phone with the rest of the committee discussing issues they have with the Board of Trustees, and that is when Carr told him that they would step out of the room and let him talk to him privately if that is what needed to be done.

Even at that point, Mackin was aware that Watts would have wanted the secrecy.

Jack Williams doesn't seem to be fazed by them at all, he's not taken one word said about them back and keep in mind , he has a son that not only attends UA, but wrote an article decrying the BOT in their school newspaper! No one that I know of has taken a run at Jack or his folks, are these people that sinister and cruel to even contemplate such an action? I hope to hell not!

I infer that he wanted Izell Reese out of the room.

Izell is not just a smart guy, and not just a very successful former player, and not just a former student of mine. He drove a UPS truck at the crack of dawn, came to class, then practiced football, then did it all over again the next day, just so he could play here. He bled and sacrificed for this program.

I was proud of Izell 20 years ago. I still am today.

I would venture to guess that the recorder was "on the table" in plain sight with a little red dot indicating that it was recording and everyone saw it and no one said "turn it off". Duh!

Brian Mackin, the AD at the time of hiring process, has not spoken publicly since the football program was killed. He has refused any attempts by media to talk with him. The tapes are important because they show that he acknowledges Bryant Jr mingled in the affairs of UAB football.athletics.
